Another question about the Asheville

trip. I just called the hotel to confirm the reservation since it was posted that the hotel changed names to the Fairfield Inn Suites. There was no reservation because a new system was installed and everything before July was lost. Luckily rooms were still available and was able to get a non smoking room with two double beds. However I couldn't remember the discounted rate that I had gotten originally. Helena said the new discounted rate was $89.95 a night and I thought that sounded pretty good by NY standards. Does this sound right?

Well..now I am stressing over whether I got the right days booked. I will have to call back now and make sure. Ok...just called and it is right. Whew...what is wrong with me that I doubt myself so much?

Anyway...just wondering what the rest of you thought if this sounded right.

Well, now I'm stressing because your rate is so much better than ours! I went through Hotels.com that says they have such good rates, and ours are like $147.95 and the Sun. night is a bit less. Friday night is the 15th, Sat. is the 16th, Sun. is the 17th, so depending on how long you're staying, those are the nights you'd need. Hotels.com made the call for me to confirm our room and said we still have ours even with the name change and remodeling. Of course, she could have done some fast rebooking, but you know, if they canceled the reservations, someone should have let us know. I'm going to complain about the rate when I get there. Don't know if it will do any good, but the worse they can say is no change.

Well I don't know whether to stress out or add to your stress but I thought the new name was the Inn at Biltmore Square Mall. I also booked through Hotels.com and they confirmed my reservation but not at the rate you mentioned.

Right, the new name is the Inn at Biltmore Square. I forgot about that. What is your rate? The rate I quoted was including all taxes. I think the base rate was like $129.95 for Friday and Saturday nights and less for Sunday night.

You are right about the name...I should have added the mall at the end. They say it so fast when you call that you cannot understand it. The inn is now operated by the Marriot chain. I called directly and got those rates. Maybe you can rebook for the lower rate if you can get out of the Hotel.com reservation. The number is 1 828 665 4242 and I talked to a Helena and when I called back I talked to someone else and she said everything is right. Now we will see when I get there.

Didn't mean to stress anyone out, but I do think you should get a better rate. I am pretty sure that is what I was going to have to pay with the original reservation.

Now I understand too how you still have a reservation. I booked directly the first time and not through hotels.com. I guess it is safer to do it your way. But, luckily it all worked out.

Getting more and more excited...only 16 more days to go! WW better do its magic.

In 16 days even bypass surgery wouldn't help me. I've just resigned myself to being heavier for the trip.

You are such a stylish lady, I am sure you will look wonderful. I just have to make sure I am not too heavy in case I do have to be wheeled around Asheville. ;)

All I know I am packing clothes for comfort first and style last. Which brings me to another question. What the heck kind of clothes are we to pack? The weather is so changeable here that I wore two different outfits..a summer one and a fall one in just a matter of hours.

Are we still having a "dress up" night? By dress up I mean something dressier than jeans.

All these silly questions I ask. Am I being anal or obsessive or just a little anxious? Probably all three. Just know I am carrying on and I won't have a lot of room. What will probably happen is that I will wear the same clothes the whole time because it will be the only "right" outfit. I do promise to bring enough changes of underwear!!

Thanks for your confidence, Grace. Wonder if they make power body suits...

I've been wondering the same things about what to pack. I am such a jeans person. I live in them when I don't have to dress up. I'm sure I'll bring those and maybe a pair of black jeans for "dressier" during the day. I think the idea of dressing up at night would be fun, but then I started wondering if we'll have time or if we'll be up to it after being out and about all day. We could bring something like that and play it by ear.

I will probably pack way more than I need just to be prepared for changes in temperature. As cold natured as I am, I will probably have to have a jacket of some kind on any time we're outside, even if it's a light one.

As for nighttime dressy, are we talk a dress or slacks? Just wondering how everyone else interprets that.

I think we're all kind of wondering about these things. Glad you brought them up. Clean underwear is always a good idea in case we wreck the grocery cart. ;-)

Planning mostly casual wardrobe - jeans and jeans, with long-sleeve and short-sleeve tops to cover the weather possibilities, with either a blazer or little longer topper coat. "Dressy" for me will be one of my stand-by knit dresses that I use a lot for work. No frills, easy to pack. Blazer or topper coat goes with it. I might bring a pair of closed dress shoes, but even those are fairly casual - loafer-like, with a bit of a heel. I'm counting on my workout sneakers and my White Mountain sandals that I got at the beginning of summer to get me through October.

Clean underwear might be a challenge .....
