Is it really Monday already???Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
So it's a new month, anyone have new fitness plans or goals?Anyone trying anything new for a workout?Anyone have any good ideas for staying on track with food?Cause that is definitely where I need help!
I was reading an interesting article this weekend about a woman named Bobbi Gibbb. She loved to run but when she tried to sign up for the Boston marathon in 1966 she found women were not allowed to compete in it.The reason was because at that time women were not allowed to compete in distances longer than 2 miles. It was believed that they were not "physiologically able".Can you believe that???So Bobbi put on mens shoes and a big sweatshirt and hid in the bushes. When the gun went off she joined the race.As the runners and the spectators realized she was a woman they began cheering her on.She finished in 3:21:40 but was not allowed to participate in any post race activities. She continued to race "unofficially" for the next 2 years.Gibbs said"I hadn't intended to make a feminist statement. I was running against the distance(not the men) and I was measuring myself

Good morning Patty and everyone-
Great story.
Great story with great thoughts for the day. I have to say I have been feeling so much better the past few days. I'm more than ever convinced that drug for whatever good it was supposed to be doing was doing other things. I have enjoyed my walking so much the past two days without that pounding in my head afterwards-sort of defeats the purpose. I really hope the bp can remain where it is without the 2nd drug. It's certainly made me concentrate a little harder getting in that exercise and better eating habits. I'm also cutting back on the caffeine. Coffee is now being made in this house 1/2 and 1/2 although this morning it was 3/4 decaf 1/4 reg. I don't think I'll ever be able to totally decaffeniate myself altogether-just like coffee to much but I can get rid of the jitters.
The weekend was an enjoyable one. I managed to get the work and play thing coordinated. It's another beautiful day here. Unfortunately it will be spent in the work place but I can look forward to the evening stroll with Otto. Two new menu items on for this evening-DS has already cast his vote of Yuck-we'll see what the other two evening diners have to say. Some type of workout this evening just not sure yet what my choice will be.
Hope you all have a magnificent Monday!

Great story, Patty. It's true that our own perception of our abilities is the only thing holding each of us back. Bobbi Gibb is a bit of a legend up here - the women who followed her in later years and ran undisguised were actually chased off the Marathon course by some of the old-timers. Good thing they kept going back and trying; today, I think the women runners are the bigger attraction up here.
We had a very lazy, lay-about day Sunday. We didn't do much of anything at all. I'm calling the doctor this morning for me - I spent the better part of the reception Saturday and all day Sunday with a vicious headache, probably the result of the inevitable sinus infection that follows my head-colds. I even fell asleep during the Patriots' game a few times, and the game was hardly boring through halftime! I need to blast this thing out of my head so I can fly comfortably in a couple of weeks and be my headache-free, usual charming self, or else you'll all really hate me before the end of the Asheville weekend. DH continues to cough a lot, and still is running hot with sweating and cold with shivering, but he says he's feeling better. Hmmm. Is that how Zithromax works?
Despite my headache and what looked like DH's discomfort, we did have a wonderful time at the wedding. The ceremony was touching - not only for the bride and groom, but for all the married couples; it almost had the tone of a renewal of vows, which the couple apparently intended for it to be. The bride and groom looked beautiful and handsome, and very happy. This is a terrific couple that I'm truly happy and proud to call friends. They're off for a 2-week honeymoon in Tuscany.
The reception was very elegant - held in a historic meetinghouse in Salem, MA, called Hamilton Hall. It was so pretty the decoration could be held to a minimum - white linens, a couple of large wreaths on the walls, beautiful mirrors that caught all the twinkling candlelight and brass chandeliers, and really stunning red hurricane lamps on the tables. Centerpieces were pots of herbs for the guests to take home. Dinner was delicious - pumpkin soup, and a lovely mixed-greens salad with Gorgonzola cheese and spiced walnuts, roasted salmon for the seriously protein-dependent, a vegetarian meal of ricotta-and-spinach dumplings with pesto for the rest of us, with sides of garlic-mashed potato and grilled baby eggplant and red peppers. DH had the salmon, and I had the vegetarian and I shared my potatoes with him (loves garlic-mashed). Happy to say that the bride picked out the menu from my Williams-Sonoma vegetarian cookbook; I had dog-eared a bunch of choices for her and many of the choices appeared in the meal and appetizers. I love this touch - the bride and groom hired a ballroom-dance teacher for the evening. There was an hour of instruction in the basics, then everyone got up and really danced; the instructor stayed to help anyone who was interested in learning more than the basic steps, so there was some fancy steppin' going on.
Back to reality today. I intend to work out tonight - cardio, LB, abs, and some light UB weight work; tomorrow, more cardio and more intense UB work. I have to be careful at dinner - DH said he's going to eat a good lunch and wants to eat light tonight, so I'm on my own and that's sometimes trouble. There's leftover chicken from last night, I have a head of cauliflower that's begging to be turned into SBD fauxtatoes, and I know there are edible green things in the fridge and freezer. All I need is the ambition to prepare the sides after my workout - so lazy am I feeling these days!
Happy anniversary, Lori! Hope you and Jeff do something nice to mark the day - it's important and special.
Have a great one, everybody!

Good Monday Mornin' Ladies...
It's a cool (yippee!) and rainy morning here.

I hear you on the coffee/caffeine thing. I love coffee. Hate decaf...it just doesn't taste the same, even the expensive stuff. I go half and half. I go off it for a week or two here and there as well. I really get the jitters and it makes my heart flutter. But I do love it in the morning! My solution has been to go half and half and limit myself to two cups...period! Good luck :)

Had a great weekend, even though I had a very stressed hubby with me.
I was reading a good article on hormone therapy the other day.It talked about just using it short term, which they said was
