Hello everyone,

My name is Jo Ann and I live in Boston, MA. I'm 45 (ugh, can't believe it), married, no kids. I recently decided it was time to get myself back into shape after dealing with Cervical Spondylosis for the last 2 years. Prior to my diagnosis, I worked out regularly, ate a healthy diet and always had lots of energy. My back problem over the last few years have had me feeling anything but what I used to feel. I have felt theragic, hopeless and basically headed into depression. After stepping on the scales and seeing a number I never dreamed I would see (190), I freaked out. I knew I had gained weight but I had no idea how much (I used to be a size 6). Needless to say, this didn't help my attitude!

My problem was that I "thought" that I wasn't able to workout any longer due to my back. Last summer I made an attempt to get back into my workout routine but failed due to my back bothering me for a week after my workout. I knew the only way for me to lose the weight was to get myself moving and burn the fat through excersize but how?

Jan. 3rd I got up and began my stretches. I finally said to myself that this was for the birds! I got in my car and drove directly to the gym. Thankfully the gym allowed me to sign up w/the stipulation that if my back began giving me problems again, the contract with them would be void.

Guess what? It's been almost a month and I have had no problems with my workout routine! In fact, it's made my back feel better to the point that I NEED to workout in order to feel better. I'm up to 3 miles on the treadmill, I've lost about 10 lbs and I finally feel like myself again. While I realize it's going to take me most of this year to get rid of the weight I put on in the last 2 yrs, I'm thankful that I can enjoy my daily workouts again. I guess my body just wasn't ready for me to get active the last time I made my attempt. I'm so thankful I gave it another shot at working out again.

I hope to get to know many of you as I journey back into the healthy way of living I was used to before I was devistated with my back problems.
