I am on my third week of exercising and eating right (this time around) and I know we shouldn't measure our success by the scale but I'm one of those people that weighs everyday. I know that at this point in my life I have to exercise and eat as healthy as I can even if the scale never moves. But, I would like some opinions on why this happened. The first week I started I lost 5 pounds, the second week I gained 3 pounds and the third week I gained 2 pounds which puts me back at my starting weight. I ate about the same all three weeks and actually did more exercise the last 2 weeks. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Thank you!

I really don't know if I have an answer for you, Becky, but it does happen. The first week you really just lost water so that is why you saw such a big loss. Then your body got busy and really started to attack the fat. So, you may be losing inches instead of pounds right now. I know it is discouraging, but you don't lose real pounds and inches at the same time.
It could be the time of the month, your muscles could be holding on to water if you are not drinking enough, or it is perimenopause/menopause. Watch your sodium intake and try to get some dietary calcium in if you are not post menopausal. Calcium helps get rid of the bloat.
Have you noticed if your clothes are loser? Use that as a guide instead of the scale.
I should take my own advice. I have been exercising a lot, gave up all junk food, and trying to watch my sodium and I have gained a couple of lbs too. Besides that, I go to the doctor today and have to get weighed. Ugh!! I believe it is stress in my case and that darn cortisol is playing havoc with my body.
Please don't give up...your healthier lifestyle will pay off. If there is anything I can do to help, I am a certified exercise instructor.
