What started out to be a cold, windy, miserable day has certainly ended up on a nicer note.

A very busy day here yesterday. I had planned only the morning being spent on yard work but I got a bit involved and well we'll just say with the exception of a quick trip to CVS for sunscreen and a lunch break we pretty much didn't finish up until almost 6PM. DH was still out there with the vegetables but I had to come in and get into the shower. I was absolutely filthy, sweaty and disgusting! Whoever says yard work isn't a workout is out of their minds! I did have a minor incident involving a ladder which I was attempting to move so I could trim my lilac bush-which is actually more a tree. I was attempting to move a ladder (actually the Little Giant Ladder System!) and well we'll just say it got away from me. My wrist went one way the ladder another, got hit in the back on the knee on the other side. Fortunately I escaped with a big purple knot on the back on my knee and a bit of a stiff wrist. Guess I should have asked for help!

But my front walkway now doesn't look like it's going to attack you as you walk up it and you can now tell one bush from the other. I wanted to do a good weeding in the front but the dirt is just too hard. I did trim up my lilac and put in all my flowers. We have a strip of dirt in front of the patio bordered by scalloped bricks and I made little boxes sectioning off each with a patio brick. I'm curious how it will look when all the flowers start coming together. I also did another small section with bright orange and yellow marigolds and we had enough red cedar mulch to put down there. The contrast of colors is really beautiful. I also did a railing planter and a hanging basket. I'm hoping everything comes up. DH's vegetables are in. Hopefully we'll have cucumbers, green peppers, cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant and basil. By the way any ideas of how to keep neighboring cats out of the yard. Past problems with them were done away by the fact that we have a dog. But these cats are a bit bolder and constantly using the yard as their litter box and stalking the birds in the yard. DH found feathers galore when he took the covers off of everything this year. He bought a spray which is supposed to keep them away but that doesn't work either. We don't know who they belong to either.
Any suggestions?

Needless to say there was no way I was preparing dinner so DH foraged around for leftovers me, myself and I had a bowl of cereal!

Were they expecting that you weren't going to be busy on Memorial Day weekend? That seems like a lot to expect from one person on any given day. Whether they think one person can handle it or not-it just doesn't seem fair that at least one other person particularly a boss wouldn't stay on.

Hormones and nasty customers or clients (in my case) don't usually mix too well! Glad you got through the day.

Susan,

Years ago my neighbor across the street had a cat that would climb on our car and scratch the paint as well as leave paw prints all over the car.

Leaving you alone on a busy weekend day really does not seem fair, Princess.

Red pepper worked for us, too, Margie.
