Hi everybody,

my name is Vicki and I'm 41 and really struggling with my weight loss. I currently weigh around 185, need to get down to my healthy weight (according to the Ivillage weight calculator)of 130-144 for my height...having no luck. I spent most of my 30's worried every day about what I was eating and doing and managed to stay in the 170's to 180's. It stinks! I always felt I was on a diet of some sort, well heck I was. I don't want to spend my 40's doing the same thing. It's so much harder now though. I'm not sure if that's due to a slowing metabolism, or just life long bad habits I have accumulated over the past 41 years. It could be a combination of both I suppose. I know support is a key role to weight loss so that's whay I'm here...to listen, to share and hopefully to get to where I want to be.

My downfalls are eating when I'm not hungry, out of boredom a lot, loneliness, stress...you name it. I love sweets of any sort and know I have a real problem with carb overloading. Too many carbs weigh me down, make me sluggish and make me gain weight. I know this and still eat them. On the upside I have tried to integrate some healthier choices into my eating. I try to eat between 7-10 servings of fruit and veggies a day (I try to stick to more veggies) and I'm on the green tea kick. I try to cut down on sugars, but that urge will finally over take me and I give in. I exercise every week, at least 3-5 times. I belong to a gym and go there for step classes, weight training, Turbo-kick classes and yoga. I don't feel exercise is my problem as I'm definately doing more now than I have in the past.

I appreciate everyone who has read up to this point :-) and any advice would be deeply appreciate. I keep thinking if I could just get in the right mindset I could do this. I don't want to keep making excuses however and have to keep saying that. The time has come! Can't wait to get to know everyone, Vicki

Vicky..Hi and welcome! Im new here too(one week) and we can get to know everyone together!

3 years ago I started atkins at 250 and lost 70 pounds. In the past year i have gained back 20 alot due to perimenopausal symptoms and having to give up running temporarily. My original goal was 173 I sure would like to get there and even Lower But this standtill is killing me!!I have successfully given up most sugar products most of the time (the killer was sugarsweetened cereal which I use to begin and end my day with)and most white flour. I have exercise in my schedule at least 5 days a week, so Im good there..I would just LOVE to take some more wight off

WTG On all the veggies...I get bored of certain ones sometimes and try to change it up...But it aint always easy

Lets do this together!

Hi Erin,

Thanks for responding. It's good to know you aren't in this alone :-)

My most successful diet was Atkins, but I just couldn't keep doing it and all the weight, plus some came back. That's why I want to look more into my lifestyle and figure out what I can live with forever, not just short term.

I wish I could do better on the sugar and white flour part. Do you find yourself substituting things.? Do you buy the low sugar bars, cookies, etc?

Thanks for the intro and I'm looking forward to losing this weight together.

vic

the last 2 years I have been diet jumping alot, Mostly because the plateus were just to Long.. I have tried High fiber and south beach and another one which I will call High protein Lower carb. I was desperate 3 weeks ago and came back to atkins, it just doesnt seem to work after so many pounds. I like alot of the things south Beach has to offer. I have tried the cookies. cereal bars, frozen dinners etc. The low carb stuff is hard to find anyway..especially the milk:)..they now call it Calorie countdown but it defintely is lower in Carbs.. I buy the low sugar yogurt which is 7 carbs and I most recently Bought Breyers No sugar added double chocolate ice cream..to me right now, Its just a lifestyle, But if I can lose weight too...so be it!! Im struggling so much to just NOT GAIN Im thriilled when the scale goes down

you should try Buying some wheat flour or some other kind thats not white and try sampling some things. I also am Hooked on Splenda..To me its a GREAT substitute for sugar

Every Monday I bring a whole bunch of veggies to put in my fridge at work to use for snacks..My favorite thing is Lowfat/LC wheat tortilla with preshredded Broccoli slaw and turkey and sometimes cheese or sometimes ranch dressing

Hi Deb,

Thanks for the welcome. It does good to hear what others are doing to try and reach their goals. I think sometimes we get stuck and I guess that's why support is so helpful.

Great talking with ya, Vicki

Erin,

Thanks for all the tips. I'm a diet jumper too and I've heard that's what gets you as your metabolism just doesn't know what to do. I like the South Beach items. Have you tried the pizza? I'm a huge pizza fan and it's a pretty good alternative I think. I do splenda too...great invention there :-) I will look around and see what I can try.

Hope the rest of your week goes well, thanks again, Vicki
