Hi everyone! I am working on getting fit (again) after relocating last September; it was a long winter of re-adjustment that unfortunately included an extra 13 pounds. I started walking the dog in March and in May purchased a road bicycle. I just turned 48 on Saturday and asked for, and got, a pedometer. Well, I found out that my daily walk is a mere 1.5 miles, not the 2 I had hoped for! I've been reading the "walking off the pounds" message board and just felt overwhelmed by the ladies doing 4 miles a day! The good news is that the weight has been coming off -- slowly because I never was a dieter -- I've lost 6 pounds. I need a little support to help me stay the course! Marianne

Hi and welcome to the board Marianne! Happy Belated Birthday! Congratulations first of all on losing those 6 lbs! Whether you're walking 1.5 miles or 4 miles the important thing is that you're doing good things for you and a reason to be proud of yourself
Hope you'll stick around here. It's a great board!

Hello Marianne and welcome to the board.

Thanks, ladies! Some of the gals around my office have been saying that I can get the next seven pounds off real fast with one of those low-carb diets; but I would really like to just stick to moderation (most of the time) and increase the walking. I am losing one or one and a half pounds a week, and sometimes not, even gaining a bit, but it is coming off slowly and I have changed my lifestyle.
I am lifting too to keep from getting flabby arms but you give me some good reasons for beefing that up too. Lose weight by just being stronger!
On my birthday, because it was "my day," my family came with me and we bicyled ten miles which was a record for us. I want to increase it!
I am looking forward to jumping onto the other posts and I appreciate your welcome.

Hi Marianne and welcome! I started out walking, and then turned into a runner and am now back to barely walking because of a knee injury..You dont worry about what everyone else does..You are your only competition as far as walking goes:) welcome to a new lifestyle!!
Oh about the diets, Just do what you want to do..alot of people dont do those low carb diets right and gain the weight back. I lost 70 pounds over a 2 year period doing low carb. Now with menopause and other things kicking in..Its hard to lose weight the way I was , gained some weight back, and Im just doing it week by week now
