Hi, i've never visied this board. never knew it existed til i started poking around on the "diet" boards. I am 45 and need to lose...around...25 lbs. i think. i'm 5'6" and my weight is 190 so would that be right? 165? anyway i can't see me at 165 ever again. but i can't stand feeling this way anymore. i feel uncomfortable in my clothes, i am having back problems , i am a stress eater. i just can't stop!!! Please...any ideas where to start. i have a tred mill at home ..new and nice and only been used a handful of times by the kids. it's like i get board w/it or tired or just don't feel like i have the time. i need to find something that works for ME. i try and read the fat content. someone told me that if i just watched the fat, i'll lose weight. well, i havent. i'm very weak. if i see desert, i want it. and not just a taste. i can't be strict w/myself. how do i get my self mentally ready to say this is it. i hate how i look in pics. my son just graduated hs and me w/him , arrrrrrrrrr, my face was so round and chubby. I am having problem w/my dh too. he's stressed about work and i'm miserable and i am sure if i lose weight, my life would change to the better. it can't get any worse. please give me some ideas and sorry i'm rambling. Thanx

Hello cedar04 and welcome to the board.

Here is my advice, in three parts.

One. In the morning, when you get up, go into the bathroom and instead of standing on the scales, stretch your arms overhead. Stretch to reach for the ceiling. Breathe, and let go. Stretch again, and bend ever so slightly to the left. Breathe. Repeat on the right. Relax. Your body feels good. Your body is good.... and loveable. Do this, and this will be enough. It will be a good start for your day. Perhaps you will take a walk today. Eventually you will do more. But stay in the present now, and love this life that is yours.

Two. Go to your favorite market, yes, perhaps the expensive one like Whole Foods. Buy foods that you love. Buy some of those beautiful white peaches that are ripe now. Fresh blueberries. Asparagus. One perfect coissant. One perfect donut, for crying out loud. Just make it food that you love. Eat that food and enjoy it. Remember why you eat food; because food is good. Enjoy. (Later you can think about watching how much you eat, but even then, never lose track of why you eat, and what a good part of life food is.)

Three. Keep yourself surrounded by positive people. Stay on this board -- come whenever you like. Figure out which of your friends and acquaintances are positive, and focus on becoming closer to those people. Take your focus off yourself, and concentrate on being a good friend to those positive people. It will come back to you many times over, and you will grow and thrive.

All good wishes,

Marianne

Hi and welcome to the board. I think you've already been given some great advise and totally agree. Changes don't come overnight and you trying to change everything at once is frustrating and overwhelming.

It is important to find something that you enjoy. Walking for me is a great stress reliever and helps to lift my mood. A sweet tooth is also a problem for me. I try not to keep a lot of sweet things in the house so the temptation is not as great. I've also found substitutes that helps me when I just need something sweet. I've found that a light yogart with fresh strawberries, blueberries or banana slices can do the trick. Sugar free frozen fudge pops are another great treat to keep on hand plus they're chocolate! Portion sizes are another good way to start. Try using a smaller size plate for your meals. And yes reading labels is also a good idea. Sometimes just looking at that is enough for me to put it back!

I do hope that you'll join with us here. It's a great board for support and motivation and offers so much more than just a great place for fitness!

Good morning and I am sorry I am late with my welcome. By all means come back.......you got some great advice and ideas from some awsome ladies. Starting out small with a 15 minute walk is a great way to begin. I do not know about a glass of water before bed.........at my age that usually means a potty run about 3 am. Either way you should be drinking about 8 glasses a day. If you are not into water try some of the flavored ones.......add a little of the cyrstal light packets to your water. Either way give yourself some time and stick with the positive attitude. Good luck and welcome again.
