I haven't taken iron since I was anemic when I was a teenager. But my DD has been taking iron after a routine blood test showed she was anemic. She wasn't given a prescription but instead has been taking an over the counter iron supplement. She's been taking SlowFe which is a slow release supplement. Iron can cause stomach upset but she hasn't had any problems with this product. She's been taking it for about 3 months and is going back to the doctor next month to be retested.
Another thought about iron and pooped out. I often feel exhausted and my doctor thought my iron level was down because of my heavy periods but when we have done blood test they always come out fine. She thought I might be boarder line just reading to the positive or normal side. She told me to take an over the counter iron pill too and I used the store equivilant to the Slow Fe and it did help. I never did buy another package but now you have me thinking again. I need a good multi vitamin too, maybe a trip to GNC this weekend. I never did make it a few weeks back.

She was pooped too but has been feeling a lot better since she's been taking it. They wanted her on it for 3 months before being retested.
