Now read this carefully and imagine me sitting next to the stove making my breakfast this morning..............I bought the Quaker Steel cut oats last week and figure alright I have time this morning to make these (30 minutes?) today. Measure my water/milk, get that boiling then I open my package...........this is oatmeal? Are you sure? They are round...........ok, 1/4 a cup, let simmer 25 to 30 minutes, stir ocassionally. The pot looks like mush, the little oatmeally things are still kind of hard as I bite into my spoonful. What gives? Not at all what I imagined or expected. Now mind you I did sprinkle some equal and cinn on top and I put my small container of apple sauce on the side but I think I like the regular oatmeal you cook for like 6 minutes (not the instant, I did that last week too, yuck). Is what I made correct? Do you use just water, just milk, combo it? I used 1 cup water and 1/4 cup skim milk.

Deb,

Steel cut oats have a much different texture than the old fashioned oats.

So I did cook them correctly. They are mushy looking, is that right? It was different and good but definatly different. I never would have know it was oatmeal. Blueberries sound interesting..........

I buy McCann's Steelcut Irish Oats and use raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon when I cook them.
