I'm fine on my end of LI. I hadn't heard about the tornado. I know Deb lives in a part of Islip and Grace not too far from her. Hope everything is OK for them.

The water just came down so hard and so fast and the flooding was terrible. Flooded roads, traffic lights out, accidents. For the first time in 16 years of living here we had water in the basement. Not a huge amount but enough to make a bit of a mess. My normal 5 minute commute took twenty and my boss who lives about 15 minutes from the office took 2 1/2 hours to get into work. It was certainly a mess. I'm sure many people had water in the their basements including a relative of a guy that DS works with. They had just finished their basement and the backyard of their house faces the Long Island Railroad where they're doing construction. Apparently the wall that the LIRR built didn't hold and the wall collapsed bringing a huge deluge of water and pretty much destroyed their newly finished basement. Their homeowner's insurance won't cover it and the LIRR is claiming their not responsible.

A HUGE mess!

Thanks for asking Nancy but we are ok here at this neck of the woods. DH in a couple of towns over at work, had rain come down sideways, the wind was so bad. He was closer to the tornado action. I think Deb is much closer too! I just stuck close to home all day and now we are waiting for more storms.

NYC had a steam pipe explode killing one person and severely burning others. I don't know if it was related but it was scary. Poor people thought it was another terrorist attack. We sure live under a different set of rules here in NY.

Have a good day...

Well you figured out where I live............Islip! Yes that was us who got hit awfully hard with that storm. Actually all of Long Island got hit bad. A good amount of houses in our town lost power for several hours, including mine. I had to close the front windows under the porch, the rain was driving hard and the wind was blowing like crazy. We just sat it out since we were all home. I kept the old radio on and we still have an old fashion phone (no electric needed) in the kitchen and we did have phone service. We just had branches down and leaves scattered across the yard. Our street was pretty flooded but no more then others. We were waiting to head out to Montauk Point for the day/night. We waited until the worst was over, Katie and I played cards, Bill and the boys slept. When we headed out later around noon several of our local streets were closed because of down trees and power lines. Thanks so much for asking about us but we were all safe and sound.
