It was 105 briefly at 5:15, according to my car thermometer, then it settled down to 104 for the next 45 minutes. Rob and I went to WalMart to get a new beach umbrella and numerous other things. Wound up getting a little folding chair with carry bag for Jackson to have at the beach. Went to Lowe's and got a good deal on 4 large variegated ginger plants to put under the mineola tangelo with the 3 that are already there and got 2 peach double hibiscus and 2 sort of corally red double hibiscus to add around the pool. I'd like to get more flowers too, but didn't see any that looked great.
I had wanted to go to Zumba tonight, but it was just too hot and I had other stuff I needed to do. When we got home, Rob and I got in the pool. It felt great! Just got out. The water was like bath water. We got on the hammock type floats that let most of your body stay in the water. I paddled around on my back that way, hoping to work my arms a little. We put Winston and Katie in the water with us for a little while.
I forgot to mention I got some cute brown Bare Traps sandals last night that had been marked 50% off, then 40% off. You gotta' love it! Found some cute red, leather-look flip flops in the accessories section of Dillard's marked down to $10. Now, I'm have shoes to match my red swimsuit when I finally wear it this weekend around the pool or on the beach. Just wish no one could see me!
Thanks, Patty! :-) Sounds to me as though you get quite a workout in CL!! You probably drop a lot of water weight out there in the heat too. Do you get in the mist to help cool yourself off? Hope you'll get to do some fun things during your break, since you've been so tied down with the birds.
I was really sorry we didn't get a chance to get together while I was up your way. If things work out, I may get back up during mid-October when all the cool autumn festivals are happening and the leaves are so pretty. That's my favorite time of year up there, although after seeing the cherry blossoms again, I have to say that's a close 2nd.
A quiet morning at work but the afternoon picked up and was rather busy. It's really humid out and the evening walk with Otto wasn't very pleasant. There's just not any air movement at all.
I'm really tired this evening and struggling to stay awake. I'm feeling a bit like the Pillsbury Dough Boy this evening-very fluffy-and not very happy about it. Maybe I should install an eject button on my side of the bed to get me out of bed in the morning.
I've been experimenting on DH all week with new recipes. We had linguine with clams and peas this evening and I made myself a big salad to go with it. Eating went pretty well today. I tried the steel cut oats this morning. I found a frozen version made by Trader Joes that you can prepare in the microwave. I'm having a bit of a problem with not liking the consistency of them. But I liked them better this morning with some banana slices and some cinnamon sprinkled on top and about a tsp of peanut butter swirled in.
That's about it from this neck of the woods and LI. Hope you've all had a good day!
Hello ladies.........home sweet home! Got back here around 2:30 then began organizing. Laundry, dishes, grocery list. Figure we area going to be home based the next few days and wanted some stuff here in the house. Made a london broil tonight with baked potatoes, sweet corn on the cob that we got from the farm stand this morning and a nice salad. It is about 77 degrees and about 99 % humidity. We ate our dinner on the back patio and we have the AC's going upstairs. Even though it is not on program I have a taste for some real ice cream, might have to send one of the boys to Baskin Robbins........heck I am on vacation! I am attaching a link for what went on here yesterday. Friends of ours live on the street that they talk about in Islip Terrace but they were fortunate. Katie's friend Allie lost several trees and a window blew in. I did not realize how extensive the damange was since we headed out east shortly after the hard rains ended. Since I did not post this morning I will just give you a few of my thankfuls now: we were fortunate to not be hurt by yesterdays storm, we enjoyed our stay out east, my boys drove out to Montauk and met us out there so we could enjoy a family meal (I really thought that was so nice of them. We offered to let them spend the night but they arrived late afternoon, had some snacks with us then joined us for a fresh fish dinner then headed home because of the pets), my childeren (even though they still fight like cats and dogs sometimes do care and love us), the rest of my family.......including my husband who right now is being a jerk but that is another story!
