QOTD: What do you like about January? more.....

I think this month gets a bad rap. Would you believe it is my favorite month?

I like the idea of starting new. The cold midwest weather and snow keeps me indoors to rest, write, reflect and sort through files, etc. I like snuggling up in afghans with a good book and cup of tea. I even like cold weather foods like stew and soup!

I love seeing the full moon shine on snow and the shadows it creates.

So what do you like about January?

my anniversary and more :)

I like January because icy roads and cold weather are a perfect excuse to curl up with a good book and a cup of cocoa. There are few demands from the outside world (editors excluded) during January. My daughter's birthday in January (34 this year) is a time to fondly remember her growing up years. And all month I look forward to my anniversary; my high school sweetheart and I have our 36th wedding anniversary on the 30th.

That it ends :-) I hate the cold and hate that whole going back to school...

thing. I'm not a big fan of winter to begin with and in the Midwest, where I am, too, winter lately has been pretty unrelenting. If you force me to come up with something good about it , it's being inside with my slippers and a big flannel shirt, warm and working. I don't mind working so much when the weather is nippy!

New Year's Day and the 31st! (m)

This year it will be even more. My daughter and her SO are coming down for a visit on January 26!

New Year's Day is one of my favorite holidays (almost rivaling Halloween). Get the day off work and don't have to spend 8 hours in the kitchen fixing a special dinner. There is usually some time to write and organize my goals for the year.

January is a great time to reposition. I'm looking for more online work. Got really bummed when my contract job was cancelled last year. The last check arrived just before my birthday. Why that didn't make me a phoenix is my own derned fault.

January 31 is always a day of excitement for me. February brings the Suncoast Writers' Conference. This year it begins on February 1. No time to hyperventilate in 2001. I love to shake the hand of a writer I've met at iVillage. This year it is Frank McCourt. (Wonder if he'll remember me from chat.)

Even though my teeth have chattered more this year than usual, January's been very, very good to me. I've started marketing my novel and thinking of shorter works.

2001 will be a very good year. Publish or perish may be the motto. Don't plan to perish for a long time.

The slower pace!

January to me is the time for new beginnings, time to make plans for the future, to reflect on the past. The time to wrap up in a blanket and read a good book, or watch a movie. A time to cuddle with the one you love. To drink hot chocolate with marshmallows and relax. After the hussle of preparing for the holidays, it feels good to take a break. Challenging yourself to either keep a new resolution or to actually fulfill a dream. January lets you know that it is never to late to do what you want and also, it is never to late to follow through with your dream. Each morning is actually a new beginning. So, I look forward to January, although by the time January is over, I definately look forward to Spring!
