When did you first start trying to get into shape? Have you always been trying or did you jsut wake up one day and decide that you had better do something before you fell apart?
Apparently I have found the right board. I was thinking of going back to 39 but 38 will work just fine so count me in too. I'm hoping that you have the instructions?
Well I must confess then that I've been 39 for 4 years. lol I have got to admit thought that I am in better shape than I ever have been. I got to 38 (real 38) and took a look at myself and thought i'd better do something. I've always walked but never really did much else. I didn't have weight to take off but had lots of toning to do so I started lifting weights. I am kind of happy with the results but I'm trying to move on and do a little more like eat healthy adn do more for my heart. I've just started pilates but am struggling because I am not flexible. Do any of you do that knid of things?
Pretty much after a move to the 'burbs, turning 40, going back to work full time, working in an office with way too much junk food in it I knew I was going to have to do something. I was always able to maintain my weight and I did a lot of walking when we were living in a city environment and running after 3 kids but with the desk job and the move came a much more sedentary lifestyle. A diagnosis of high blood pressure also increased the need to keep things under better control.
Hey Royal I had a bit of a health scare and vowed to try harder. Recently my brother who is in great shape-he is a professional cyclist-had a heart attack and now I am wanting to try even harder. I used to jsut walk every day but then my husband made me join a gym wth him and slowly I started lifting weights. I do legs and chest exercises on Mondays-that is squats, hamstring curls, pushups and one of the machines for chest like bench or something. I am not strong so I don't use a lot of weight. I had to start with taking the pins out and just using the bars when I first started. On tuesdays I do biceps, tricepts and back. Curls with biceps with 15lbs weights or 30lb bar and then I use the cables with 50lbs but this is really hard for me. I do 3 sets of 8-10 reps as the girl who goes around and tells everyone how to use things told me what to do. For triceps I do dips with my body and then cables with 50-60 lbs-again hard. For back I use various machines. On Wednesday I do shoulders and I use the chart at the gym or the Arnold Encyclopedia for ideas. I try to come up with different routines every few months to work different muscles. I had no idea that there were so many muscle parts in a body until I started this stuff. I takes about 30 minutes to do a weight circuit so I can usually squeeze in my weight lifting most weeks. My cardio I try to walk for 35 minutes to an hour every day but I think maybe I should do more. this I do to relax and destress too. I am wondering how my routine compares to everyone else because I have only been doing this for a few years. I am not really a strong person but I do have to say that I have improved my arms and legs and my butt no longer hangs around my knees. hehehe
Hi Grace-wow a instructor. That is great. Oh I could never do ballet-I look horrible in tights. hehehe-no really I am so not flexible and am not cordinated in the least bit. The pilates I am doing is from a video I got at Walmart and it's called the 10 minute rapid results. I can now do the abs part almost two times in a row but it's hard. I will laugh my head off if anyone ever calls me Gumby. hehehe
Oh I lift weights for preventing bone loss. I had my ovaries removed in my early thirties-terrible
