We have really old hardwood floors. Someone who owned the house before us apparently tried to "finish" them themselves, and they're uneven and in need of work. They're passable; but when you look at them everyday, it's easy to see the flaws. So, they don't shine no matter what :). We did pay someone to get the master bedroom floors done - we removed brown shag carpeting (ick). I don't use Swiffer anymore on that floor; personally I find it more work & money than just damp mopping once in awhile. One thing I did in our previous house after we got the floors re-finished was a dust mop and Pledge. Easy, quick, and they looked great! Plus, we could all slide from the sun room, living room & dining room into the kitchen in one pass :).
The bedroom floors are quite shiny, so I don't worry much about them. I'm going back to work full-time in January and one of the projects on the list to get done when we have the "extra" income is the floors! It'll probably cost; we have 3 large rooms + hallway on the first floor, the stairs, and 3 bedrooms and a hallway on the second floor. Yikes. The kitchen needs the work desperately; our challenge is to get the floors clean without leaving too much water sitting on them.
We have wood floors.. I generally swiffer or vacumm and damp mop with a special wood cleaner periodically... I thought I would like wood floors but I dunno anymore... :)
Low key afternoon here. I read a few newspapers. The one for my part of town had a good article about the Navy JAG Commander Rob and I had gone to hear speak. He finally received a medal he'd gotten right when he was sent to GITMO over a year ago. Imagine my suprise when my ex's wife got the Yard of the Month Award!! His name was not mentioned a bit, which I thought was odd. Usually they'll give the name of the couple and picture them both. She took classes through the county extension office and is a master gardener now, but he works in the yard a lot too (or at least he did). The really funny thing is some of the plants they mentioned around the pool (we had put in) are ones that I planted. In fact, the banana trees were originally from plants my dad started and gave us. Small world, huh? Wonder who submitted their yard. Most of it isn't so good. It's mainly around the pool area.
I did take a nap and talked to Tim a couple of times. He took the people from Memphis on a tour and met with them. He said he felt relaxed and that the time with them was very positive. Now, if the one with the additional people tomorrow goes well too, that would be wonderful!
Rob went surfing this afternoon despite his barky cough and the drizzle out. Surf was good. Weather sure changed. After being in the 90's even into the evening yesterday, it was only 65 when I had to make an emergency McFlurry run to McDonald's about 9 tonight. So you don't worry that I'm taking in
I have wood laminate floors and only use swiffer on them. I absolutely love my floors and wouldn't trade. We take a dry swiffer to dust and then the wet swiffers if we need to touch up. It couldn't be easier.

I love h/w floors. Do you use throw rugs?

Thanks everyone for all the great info!
Debra,
I have hardwood floors which have a commercial grade finish on them so they have a high gloss finish.
