I've missed everybody but enjoyed reading the posts over the past few months.
I joined this list last August while I was "between" jobs and had plenty of time, but I haven't posted in a while...the last two months have been good. The job is not too bad. My son is off to a good start in school. Soccer for him ended this weekend; games on both Saturday and Sunday. Now, winter "hibernation" begins for all of us.
Every year, I get a little down with the changing of the clocks, the early nighttime, and the loss of evening outdoor activities. This year, I am looking for peace and acceptance. I purchased a warm yellow tea pot yesterday for the Bigelow herbal peach tea I have been enjoying (try it!)....Yes, I am going to miss the golf and the tennis, but I am going to enjoy the peace of this time of year, and I am still going to do my weights, yoga and dog walking!
My latest approach to wellness is this: I am focusing first on my mind and heart: I am remembering to breathe and stay spiritually focused and to meditate through the anxiety. I want my increasing years to bring me perspective and calm. I am expecting that this new perspective will not only make me happier but also lead me to better choices in food and fitness.
A bit of frost this morning but temperatures look they're going to be spring like again before rain comes our way and back to November type of weather.
Patty-the jars are just simple round glass jars. They can be any size you like. For the bigger jars we use a holiday scarfing ribbon (which is a real wide ribbon) and hot glue it to the jar and then using holiday fabric ribbon we either hot glue on the top and bottom of the scarfing or in the middle or sometimes just do a fabric ribbon tied in a bow around the middle. They add a festive touch to a gift from the kitchen. DD actually does a better job on the hot gluing and I do a better job on her wrapping so we've been known to swap jobs! We have a holiday baking weekend where we'll attempt to fill up those jars.
I was rudely awakened by the buzzer to my alarm instead of the radio. That buzzer besides being annoying scares me out of bed. Down to the basement for a few miles on the exercise bike and then on to weights and stretches for my workout today.
DH got his blood test results and as usual he's the one who doesn't put any work into anything and comes up with "A"'s and I'm still the one trying really hard but still struggling for a decent grade. It sure can be frustrating!
DD and I never did get to our jar project last night. We were both beat after the work day and then I was out the door for dog walking, she was on the phone when I got back in and that was my excuse to sit and read and then flip back and forth between DWTS and House.
It's been a busy as a bee morning for me. I had laundry to whirl and twirl, bathroom that needed a quick wipe down, dog hair that needed to be dealt with and then it's off to the paying job. Yesterday was a pretty busy day. I had work to be caught up with since I was out Monday but pretty much got that under control.
Rhonda-I hope the doctor will be able to get to the cause of your issues and you will soon be feeling better.
Nancy-happy land searching! Hope you and your DH have a safe trip. Glad to hear that your DD and SIL will be with you for Thanksgiving.
Grace-so happy to hear that your stress test went so well. Very sorry to hear about the continuing issues with your niece.
Donna-hope all is well with you. Waving to you and Kathy from here on LI!
Thinking of all of you that we haven't heard from. Hope all is well with all of you.
Time to finish up the non paying chores and go sort some socks. Sure do wish certain male members of the household would come and get their laundry!
Oh darn...forgot I had signed in through Mozilla and I don't have all the fancy settings. Anywho...Hello everyone.
Marianne...I really like reading your post today and how you are finding peace on the changing times and seasons. Yes...deep breaths and looking at the good right there in front of us.
Just got off the phone with DinL. Gosh...we talked for over an 1 1/2 hours. I have to call her more often. It looks like we might be ALL together this Christmas season. Woo hoo!
It really is annoying when people who don't exercise and eat and drink anything and everything do better with their physicals than those of us who try to do everything "right". You really had a busy morning already Susan. I love the idea of the jars too.
Nancy...that is great news about the family being able to come for Thanksgiving. Patty...the picture does make me smile. Love little kitties.
Nothing else much doing here. I am still hoping to get on the treadmill or elliptical today but this gloomy weather is not conducive to get me going. I guess I can slack since I am doing 3 classes tomorrow and I am not feeling my best today. I think I am still feeling the aftermath of the stress of the party, test, and niece. I hope to feel more myself tomorrow and being back in my routine.
Hi, Lori...it is never the wrong time of year to do something for you. Sorry the job is not working out and you have to start again looking for a new job. But, the stress of the work sounds like it is not good for you at all. Too bad about the dance troupe also. I loved reading your posts about your dancing...something I would love to try again myself. I would love to take ballet...but then I think about pink tights. Ugh! LOL!
I hope things work out. Don't forget to take care of you and especially this time of year.
Still can't compute the out door temperatures you post. I am really not ready for winter! How ambitious of you to make Thanksgiving cookies. A pumpkin pie or two is about all I thik about baking this time of year.
Actually, this is a great time of year to re-dedicate yourself to fitness! It could help you through the holidays and give you a great headstart on the typical first of the year rush we usually make.
Hope things work out with the dance troupe since you thrive on it so much and seem to be really good at it. Hate it when personalities interfere with something that should be positive. Maybe SHE should be the one to decide to leave. ;-)
Best of luck on your job search. I would think a job where you're happier and being able to live at home again without all that commuting would make a major difference in your well being.
I agree, Rhonda! In past years, I've found this a great time to rededicate. I don't know why I'm having difficulty this year. Or, maybe I'm just being too hard on myself!
Today, I went with my boss to an all-day meeting of Academic computing professionals, and it was wonderful to get away. We're forcing our students from one wireless protocol to a more secure wireless protocol, and it has been very stressful. Getting to meet with others who face similar challenges, having a nice lunch in a restaurant on the 14th floor with a gorgeous view of Ithaca, NY was really nice.
This afternoon when I came home, I took the dog out to play as usual; she is really having a ball in the piles of leaves that our neighbor's have raked up. She jumps in them with her ball and roots through them or just lays there and plays with the ball when she gets tired. That always gives me a moment to take pause and remind myself that sometimes the simplest things can make us the happiest.
Tomorrow at work we get news about what is going to happen after one of our managers leaves next week. I'm not looking forward to it. Jobs can really get in the way of happiness at times.
I ate really crappy today. Nothing irreparable, I hope. I had a doc appt yesterday and got weighed....ugh....even though I had all my clothes on, I still didn't like the number I saw. Can we every just be happy with who we are today? I try...but some days are harder than others.
