I used to keep a traditional journal book but wanted something that would be quick and easier so I switched to using a calendar as a journal created on MS Word.

I've been a journaler off and on for years. I've done it online, in Word, in writing in a notebook etc. One of the most effective things I did was buy a soft-sided notebook holder and fill it with wide-ruled notebook. Then, I cut out pictures and used colored markers and things every day. Each month, I drew a chart in and took measurements and weight. I got away from it for some reason.
As a gift to myself for Christmas, I'm going to start another one. I had pictures of "my perfect arms," the "rules" for clothing for my body type, etc. I cut out sayings and inspiring words from magazines and from these message boards even! It was really inspiring.
I think what happens with me is that I get to a place where I'm happy and then give up the journaling (and other things) that helped me get there. I think I'll know I've finally grown up when I realize and follow-through with all the good habits even after I've met my goals :). I am pretty good overall and looking back at old journals, I have come a Long Way, Baby from where I was. It's nice to look back and see what worked, what didn't, etc.
If you've never seen it, take a peek at Oprah's Make the Connection Companion Journal (it's kind of old now); it is really a nice journal. I've tried other pre-fab journals, too, but I liked that one the best of all that genre.
