“Friends broaden our horizons. They serve as new models with whom we can identify. They allow us to be ourselves--and accept us that way. They enhance our self-esteem because they think we're okay, because we matter to them. And because they matter to us-for various reasons, at various levels of intensity-they enrich the quality of our emotional life.”

—Judith Viorst (b. 1931), novelist, U.S. newspaper columnist

Yesterday was a quiet day here. I did a weight workout but that was it. The guys were gone

Good Morning,

That's really cool how you found that picture. I so agree with your sentiments about this board. It truly is a blessing in my life as well.

It's another gray looking day although again the sun is trying hard to make an appearance. It's also the second time in 3 weeks that I've come down with some kind of bug. The hacky cough has reappeared and the sinus pressure is awful. Thankfully no "Paying" working week until Wednesday and then if I still feel yucky I already have a scheduled doctor's appointment. Hopefully whatever this is will be gone by then.

Grocery shopping is on the agenda and I'm going to get my nails done. I may sit at my desk this afternoon and do some shredding. It's time for the yearly shredding. I cleaned out my refrigerator yesterday and cleaned out both the upstairs and downstairs pantries. I was a bit mortified by the expiration dates on some of the items. I'm definitely going to continue to cut down on the amount of stuff I have on hand. I like a well stocked pantry but this was definitely out of control.

I sent DH out to his nieces'house last night for the birthday party. I wasn't feeling up to it and I figured they might not want me around anyway. We're supposed to be going out to eat with DD's BF's family this evening. We cancelled last week so I'm hoping I'll have an appetite and feel like going this evening.

Nancy-prayers going out for your Mom.

Well, better get myself together and get out the door. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Susan, your statement about liking a well stocked pantry is exactly the way I feel.

Wearing panty hose would tire me out and I definitely have come to a stage in my life where I think my social skills are beginning to wane.... I sure don't like chatting with some people anymore.

Good Morning everyone! Wow...it has been a long time since I posted and it was still morning! Scraped the ice off my windshield and got to 8:30 Mass, put gas in the car and then tried to find a new water filter for the refrigerator. I am not trying not to eat anything before going to lunch. I am sipping a cup of green tea and had 2 clemetines. Sounded like a healthy start of the day. I do plan on having a salad at lunch.

Looks like only a couple of us are meeting today for lunch but I will meet the head of the chapter. This chapter only does things on the weekend and it looks like only 2 times a month. I want to try to find a chapter that meets more during the week since family things are already conflicting with most of the things planned. I understand you can join more than one Red Hat Society chapter. I can see how this can get expensive Rhonda. You are so active with the Republican club it is probably best that you stick with that.

Prayers are continuing for all the ailing parents. You all are feeling like part of my family and your "troubles" are on my mind. Looks like it is going to be unanimous on how we feel about each other and the board.

Now wearing panty hose alone would wear me out Patty! I can't even remember the last time I wore them...not even to the last child's wedding. But then I don't wear skirts or dresses so I can get away with it. Enjoy your run and you day, Patty.

Susan...hope you are feeling better and you get to go to the dinner tonight. I think your shredder will be working over time if you have as much to shred as I do this time of year. Oh my pantry is so full there is stuff on the floor and it overflowed into the garage. I am definitely out of control but you will never starve in this house!

Full Christmas celebration for you and your family, KAREN. I can't believe those pictures and all the presents! So glad you figured out how to keep the stress level down. That ruffle sure hid your hands...LOL!

JDEB...how exciting to sub Zumba without planning it! Things sound like they are really moving along with Zumba and practicing with someone else is so good too. I don't know how else to say it, but I find this so exciting with being an instructor. I remember how I felt when I first started out and got good "reviews".

Well...gotta go and I will be back later...
Hugs

DH and I slept in yesterday (I was up really late - it always takes me a long time to unwind from a gig). He got up and made coffee, fed the animals, emptied the dishwasher and let me sleep. Then, after I became somewhat conscious (lol), ate, got breakfast, we went out and ran errands. We went to the mall, and I dropped into Ann Taylor on my quest to find a 'classic white blouse.' I tried on the same blouse in several different sizes (they had it in black, too which I really liked), but they just didn't work - I have to remind myself - it's the clothes, it's NOT me. We were able to purchase a few more things for DD and GS for our Christmas with them Tuesday. DD is coming over today to use our computer to apply for other jobs.

After seeing myself in that dressing room mirror, I got sort of angry. I can't worry about what's happened in the past, I have to keep moving forward. I don't make New Year's resolutions, but I resolved with myself yesterday to wake up!

We went grocery shopping, and since I got my first full-time paycheck, we were able to stock up more than we can sometimes (my salary goes towards the majority of the grocery purchases). I also was able to get caught up on all my bills in one paycheck - that felt wonderful.

I decided that rather than fighting my love for dessert, I'd try and find things that were reasonable - I bought some Betty Crocker mini Warm Delights (150 cals each and they're single serving). I stocked up on lunch stuff and snacks (like Fantastic foods soup cups) to keep at work.We went to the Mediterranean grocery store, and I bought fat-free Greek yogurt. This stuff is awesome - it's thick and rich and 100 cal for 6 oz with 7g of sugar - Stonyfield farm fat-free yogurt has 15g). I had it this morning with my flax and fiber crunch cereal, and it was fabulous.

I LOVE that picture Patty. It looks so quaint!

I'm really enjoying getting to know people on this board. I have to admit that I'm terrible at remembering names, so my goal for the next week is to make a list of all your ivillage names with your 'real' names so I don't goof anything up!

This group has been a wonderful source of inspiration for me - everyone here is so strong and supportive.
