Patty, I feel your pain. I was doing so well several months ago and now I'm just about back to square one.

I was up till almost 3, but didn't watch any of the New Year's stuff. Tim had fallen asleep at 9:50. I watched regular shows and got on the computer some. I had been cooking and cleaning up the kitchen until fairly late. I'd never made cookies that you dip in chocolate or made that type of candy before, so when the recipe said you could add cream or other things to the melted chocolate, I didn't know you had to heat it to that temperature first or the chocolate would "seize", meaning get hard and grainy. What a pain! I had done about half the balls when the chocolate seemed to be getting a little too hard, so I added some half-and-half. It became a real mess after that. I looked on the internet and found out that if I added a little oil and/or more of the liquid heated to the temperature of the chocolate I might be able to save it. I did that and it seemed to be OK. Funny thing is the chocolae turned dark like semi sweet when it had looked like milk chocolate. I thought it would look lighter. Anyway, got those finished and in the fridge.

All I have left to do this morning is make a recipe of cornbread and a ton of rice, then pack up all the food and other stuff I have to take. I hope somewhere is open, because I don't have as many Chinet type plates as I thought I did. I've got the peas cooking more too.

Rob spent the night at his friend's house, since he'll be flying back to CA later this morning, but Rob will be home in time to go to the nursing home with us. Tim is still asleep even though he'd set his alarm for 5-something. Of course, I heard it, and he didn't budge until he turned it off finally. He went right back to sleep. I didn't.

It's going to be only mid-60's today and is suppoesd to get into the 20's tonight!! I saw on the computer that it may be 20 and windy tomorrow night! That's not good at all since we've had such a warm winter and none of the plants have hardened off. I'll be covering up the more tender plants to try to protect them.

Happy New Year everyone!

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

Love the poem Patty! I'm going to print that out and leave it here on the door of the computer desk so I can see it each morning of the coming year.

It's a windy and rainy morning here and it's supposed to get cold as well. I'm glad I got my dose of sunshine and a walk yesterday. I walked a little over 2 miles yesterday and it felt so good. Also took "garbage" dog out for a walk to make sure he could still waddle down the street. He seemed to have recuperated from his binge by late yesterday afternoon.

DH and I did get to the movies yesterday and saw National Treasure. We both enjoyed it. We seldom go to the movies so it's always great when we go and both enjoy the show. We were supposed to go out to eat but DH was complaining about his stomach. He said it was from the night before but I think the garlic knots and chocolate for lunch might have had something to do with it. I worry about his eating habits but of course his weight changes very little and his test results always come back good so not much of an incentive to change things.

We were home by late afternoon and by early evening we decided to watch Young Frankenstein. We haven't seen that movie in years and DD had bought DH the DVD. Somewhere in the middle I fell asleep but saw most of it. That movie still makes me laugh. I was in bed before midnight and woke up just past midnight. There were a few fireworks in the neighborhood which of course Otto freaked out about. But went right back to sleep and actually slept in a bit this morning.

DH and I went out for breakfast and I enjoyed their pumpkin pancakes . They were dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. DD said she and BF were coming for dinner. Not much notice and glad I didn't buy the ham I had considered since she detests ham. I did buy a pork loin which is also not one of her favorites but she didn't say they weren't coming either :)! I found a recipe from Ellie Krieger's Food Network show Healthy Appetite that sounded really good. You make a fresh herb and garlic rub and then roast the pork loin and I'm going to make some roasted sweet potatoes and fresh green bean and a salad.

Feeling a little on the lazy side again this morning. I think I may get on the treadmill and work off some of my pancakes. Time to stop making excuses and get back with the program!

Rhonda-so glad to see that your Dad was up and walking. Continued prayers for him. Hope Tim is able to destress.
Nancy and Kathy-continued prayers for your parents as well.
Karen- Should have stopped at your house for dinner last night. Your menu sure sounded a lot better than my bowl of Raisin Bran!

Judy-2007 certainly held a lot of challenges for you. Hope the New Year holds good things for you.

Well better go change my clothes and stop staring at the treadmill and get on it! Hope everyone enjoys their first day of 2008!
