This came today right before I'm leaving for my Zumba Demo.....screw those paper tigers.

The Evolution of a Dream

Dream is implanted into brain.

Dreamer becomes thrilled.

Dreamer becomes terrified.

If no action is taken, terrifying thoughts grow into flesh-eating monsters. Dream is considered unrealistic.

If action is taken, terrifying thoughts are revealed to be paper tigers. Confidence soars, miracles unfold, and dreamer begins to saunter.

Either way,

I hadn't heard the term "paper tigers" before.

There are a bunch of books with that term in the title, but I can't think of the first one I heard with it. Now that's bugging me. There was also a kind of corny song back in the 60's with that title. Anyway, I'm glad you've defeated yours. :-)

(peak Billboard position # 23 in 1965)
Words and Music by John D Loudermilk
Quit beatin' your chest and actin' like you're gonna bite a big hole out of me
Quit messin' and testin' cuz this ain't at all impressin' to me
Paper tiger, paper tiger, you paper tigers are all alike
Your roar is much worse than your bite.
Quit spyin' and sighin' and lyin' and tryin' to be so mean
Cuz you ain't scarin' nobody, baby, you're just makin' a scene
Paper tiger, paper tiger, you're just a'flutterin' in the tree
Ain't shakin' no one but the leaves

Oh how you try to be so brave
Thinkin' that I'll run back to ya and be afraid
And so you try to come on strong
Thinkin' that I will go along, but you're wrong
Paper tiger, paper tiger, you paper tigers are all alike
Your roar is much worse than your bite.
Your roar is much worse than your bite.
SPOKEN FADE:C'mere, kitty. Here, kitty, kitty, kitty ah ha ha ha ha

I just typed in Paper Tiger. In 1965, you were probably pretty young. I was a freshman or sophomore in high school, depending on what part of the year it was, so I remember hearing it. Wish I could think of the guy's name who wrote the book I have in mind, because I can't find the book. I can picture him, but his name just doesn't come to me. That happens way too frequently now.

I read that the term is actually a translation of a Chinese saying. Didn't know that.

Found out the book I was thinking of was actually Paper Lion by George Plimpton, but there are a lot of other books that use the term and there was a movie in 1975. Probably more than you wanted to know, right? LOL!
