I spent the day being the domestic godess. Dusted, vacuumed, mega loads of laundry, cleaned out stuff from the refrigerator before it became science experiments, changed bed linens, cleaned the upstairs bathroom, paid some bills and prepared a delicious soup courtesy of Cooking Light and a loaf of honey almond wheat bread from the bread machine. Love when experiments go right. I still have menus to prepare for next week and a grocery list to do. I'm sure by the time that I actually sit down for the evening I'll be found dozing off in the chair. After what seems like a weeks worth of chores combined into one day I figure I get in an extra workout for the day.
Never ventured out the door with Otto. By the time I was set to take him out it had started raining. He's now hiding out since DS had the garage open and his car pushed out. It just sends him into immediate trauma. In fact he was so traumatized that the chewie he had dug up for a snack was left abandoned in the yard. I'm sure he'll decide about midnight to go find it again.
Well the buzzer has sounded on the dryer and might as well finish up the folding and putting everything down before settling into my chair for the rest of the evening.
I went to see the condo with Mom today. She got within half a mile of there and made 2 wrong turns and wound up on I-95 north a few miles up the road. I couldn't determine where she was from her description, so I got on the highway and drove till I saw her on the side of the road. It made me very nervous to know she was sitting in her car on the side of the road. She could have been hit. We were about 15 minutes late, but the agent was running a little late too so it worked out well.
The agent spent 2 hours and 15 minutes with us!! She is so nice. I even brought a scarf for Mom, so that when we rode around the property in a golf cart her hair wouldn't get messed up. I know how she is. She did like the development very well and found one she likes. It's not the least expensive, of course, even though it's the same floor plan. This one backs up to the nature preserve with a view of trees (some of which are bay trees that bloom like a skinny version of a magnolia) and there's almost no traffic back there. We had her put a courtesy hold on it, and I'm going to go get Dad tomorrow to ride around the property. I don't think we'll be able to get him in one of the units, but he's been so cranky lately, we may not want to. Cheryl called today and said she talked to him and he said he was supposed to come look, but he wasn't going to buy one! She asked why, and he said because he could stay where he is and have everything done. Now, all we've heard from day one is how badly he wants to get out of there and be at home. I realize this won't be their home of 47 years, but he can't live in that house. He needs one that's handicapped accessible. I think Mom would have put down the 3% binder on it today if they'd taken American Express. She gets some kind of rewards for that. They take checks, but not credit cards. She would have 15 days to change her mind. If I could just knock her out for 15 days if she puts the binder down... ;-)
I had her get in my car and drove her around some to see what restaurants, stores, and services are in the immediate area, but couldn't do it for long, because she was already a couple hours late getting to see Dad. Cheryl had called and let us know that he thought she was picking him up at noon today to see it, so he was confused and antsy.
I looked at an Ace Hardware for some shrubs to replace a few hollys the neighbor behind me has destroyed when he's mowing or his kids are cutting through my yard. Didn't see anything I liked there, but a man had set up a huge display of plants in a shopping center parking lot, and I wound up buying 3 nice size Nandinas (Heavenly Bamboo). The new growth is fiery red and bright yellow like autumn leaves. TThat's probably the closest to autumn leaves I'll get around here. They have blossoms and in the fall they have berries. They're tall and bright and I moved my 3' high wrought iron fence sections behind them, so hopefully he'll get a clue.
Rob dug the holes for me, and it was a chore even with his size. He had to use a hatchet to get through some of the tree roots. He also dug a hole for me to move the remains of one of the hollys. I trimmed some of the boxwood, but just enough to get by. It's really hard on my lower back and I can go a while longer before they'll need it obviously. It was such a perfect day to work in the yard that I did more weeding around the pool, skimmed a few oak leaves out of it (no catkins today!), and washed off the decking. The dogs were loving being outside.
I met some neighbors who've lived down the street 4 houses from me. I thought they were new, but they've been there a few years. I knew the people who lived in their house before them. I was so embarrassed. Two other groups came by
