What Not to Wear If You're Over 40

You may look half your age, but if you're over 40 there are certain things you should never wear -- no matter what.

That's the word from fashion guru Tim Gunn, who serves as the mentor on the hit reality series 'Project Runway' that premiered on Bravo in 2004.

When Gunn was a guest on the 'Oprah' show, he laid down the law to the over-40 crowd.

If you're over 40, you should never wear:

1. Horizontal stripes

2. Jackets that hit at mid-thigh

3. Pleated pants

4. Double-breasted blazers

5. Capri-length pants

6. Low-rise jeans

Makeup artist Bobbi Brown, who is about to turn 50, says the key to looking beautiful as we age is not what you put on your face, but rather how you care for your body. "It's about eating," she says. "It's about exercise more than anything else."

She warned that skin care is key for older women. As we age, our skin gets drier, so it's important to switch from a powder blush to a cream rouge. (Note: Wish I could find one that wouldn't cause me to break out).

Why can't we wear capris? I waited forever to be old enough to dress how I want and now everyone still wants to tell me what to wear !

I think we should all wear what we really feel comfortable in, but

As much as I adore watching those type of shows they forget we are everyday people out here. I have a few capri's myself and I think they look cute with flip flops...........or sandels. I also have shorts but not Daisy Duke shorts. I can not wear low rise jeans even if I wanted to with my tummy band of fat but finding a waist pair of jeas is difficult.......then add in the short legs. I love how Stacy and Clinton say tailor, have they priced a tailor? Listen look your age by dressing accordingly and appropriatly. There is a time and place for everything and when I am going out to a dinner with my husband a nice dark jean with a pointed toe boot is great but if we are going to the diner then my regular jeans with my sneakers works well too. If I lived in sweats everyday of everyhour then I could understand.......of if I wore my platform shoes to the office (I don't have any but if I did.........lol).

I'm a lot like most of other women who don't work in an office anymore. I have tons of clothes left from when I used to dress up, but I almost never wear them. Even church is so much more casual than it used to be. I live in jeans, sweatshirts, sweaters,

I vote for an "Over 40" What Not To Wear, with Stacy and Clinton taking all of us to New York and giving each of us $5000 plus the hair and make-up...

I like Tim Gunn, but I hate blanket advice like that.
