Hi Everyone: Ever since I turned 40(now 41), I've been struggling with my weight. I don't have a lot to lose to reach my goal, 10 pounds. I typically eat healthy and exercise everyday. I think my main issue is age and portion size. I'm currently trying to eat 1000 calories a day to lose weight. I'm looking for anyone else on 1000 calories a day and ideas on what you are eating each day.

Thank you for any ideas or tips for me in advance.

Hi, Julie! Welcome to the board and to the "club" of growing older and having trouble with weight. Nancy had some really good advice and I agree that 1000 calories is not enough. You really have to eat 1200 to 1500 calories a day (more if you are active which you are). Changing up your exercise will help. Your body gets used to what you do. I can attest to that with being a certified group exercise instuctor. I realize too that I have to lift weights to lose weight. Yes, you have to build up your muscle mass...it is almost more important than doing just cardio. You don't have to go to the gym...just get some dumb bells in 5/8/10 lb increments and do some basics. Sqats and lunges are invaluable.

Hope you come by more and if you have any more questions, feel free to post them here or email me.

Hi Everyone: Thanks so much for your responses. A little more info about me: I'm 5'5" tall and I'm trying to get to the weight I was 7 years ago before having to have a series of knee surgeries from an old injury when I was 19. I'm trying to reach 120 pounds. I managed to lose 5 pounds but I'm now stuck at 130 pounds. I do lift weights, and do aerobic exercise nearly every day. I love outside activities like biking, skiing, kayaking, and snowshoeing. I eat very healthy; so, as Nancy said, this 10 pounds may be a huge struggle but it is important to me! Please help me figure this out:>)

I do agree that 1000 calories is not enough but I was at witts end and didn't know what else to do:>(

Any Ideas????????

Thanks in advance again, Julie

Hi Julie, I am 5'5 and always weighed 115lbs even at age 40 when working out and eating 6 small meals a day rather than 3 large ones.

I am now 46 and trying to at least get back down to 120 or 125 but what I'm finding is, the more I work out and get smaller ( and I mean in inches), such as my pants starting to be way too big and my measurements shrinking, the pounds really havent changed more than 1 or 2 pounds and depending on what time of day I weigh, sometimes I'm still at 135.

I'm still on the fence about whether it is my age, or the way I was eating.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!

That is exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to start trying that right away!!! I'm so glad to hear from someone who has similar goals and what your experience has been, thank you! I don't think 120 is unattainable, I think I just need some new ideas:>)

I have three friends that are older and in better shape than I am. They are the only ones who talk about exercising and how important it is to stay fit. All the rest just tell me I'm thin enough and think I'm very active. I am active compared to them; but, I think I could be more focused, work out longer and with more intensity.

I'm really looking for people like you to talk to about what we are doing for exercise, what we are eating, and how those goals are coming. I'm also very interested in sharing healthy recipes.

Any way, thanks again for the great idea. A change like 6 small meals a day just might help me get to the next level of fitness(or get me back rather,LOL). Please let me know how it's working out for you.

Take Care, Julie

Hi again Ginger:

Would you be able to give me some examples of what your mini meals look like?

Thanks, Julie
