So excited to find this board!

I was cruising through the boards this morning and found this one! I was psyched! I'm 43, work full time, married, two kids who are 6 & 8. And, overweight by like 30 pounds. I struggle with it constantly. I'm not a couch potato by any means. I have a gym membership, love to bike, spend a lot of time running around with the kids. And, I eat Lean Cuisine for lunch every day. I also think I'm pretty strong.

Good morning Milo and welcome to the FOF board. Nancy did a great job explaining "us" and giving you advise. I think what you are going through is what so many of us go through each day. I can raise my hand and stand next to you because I feel like we are in the same boat. I have to loose about 30 pounds myself and that wonderful scale of mine does not budge. You have a busy life style trying to balance kids, husband, house and job and as working moms we often let ourselves get the last there is to offer. But I am guilty too.........sometimes it is just impossible to squeeze anything else into that day, even if it is self motivated. Have you ever really dieted before? Followed a healthy eatting plan? Like you said your not a couch potato, so that is good but our bodies get used to our daily routines and they settle. We need to mix it up some.......change the routine. Believe me I understand how difficult that is. Is it possible to gather the family after dinner (now that summer is here) and go for a walk or a bike ride before the kids go to bed? If its only 20 minutes worth you would be spending time with the kids and exercising too. Food intake, you mentioned starving.........not good at all. You have to eat but eat healthy. A Lean Cusine is find once in a while but not each day. The salt in those frozen meals is not good. Do you eat enough vegtables.......maybe a nice salad with grilled chicken for lunch would mix it up. How about dairy....you need that too. Yogurts with fruit or granola. There are so many healthy eatting plans out there just getting started it the toughest. I prefer the WW plan although I am no longer attending meetings most of my day focuses around what the points are before I put them in my mouth so it makes me think and I try to make wiser choices 98% of the time.

I also work but not full time, I average about 25 to 30 hours a week. I just turned 47 (gosh I hated writting that number) in March, I have 3 kids (23, 18, 14) and a DH. We own our own business which keeps my DH and older son pretty busy, my middle son is full time in college and my youngest is our DD and she keeps me running around when I am home. I get up at 6 each morning, walk for 30 minutes (1 1/2 miles) each morning then head home to get this family organized and out the door for school and work. With me following right behind. I am fortunate that I get home between 3 and 5 most days so I try to organize the house some, do laundry and get dinner going. By the time PM comes I am not looking to run a marathon let alone walk but now that the weather is here I need to push myself and either grab my DD or DH and make it happen.

Stick around, you will find that many of us struggle as you do. You will find tons of motivation, encouragement, and support from this group. We have all become friends on so many levels and we always welcome a newbie here. We look forward to getting to know you better.

Welcome! Nancy did a great job with her post, so I'll just say it's possible to be 58 and not know what to do, at least with my life. I had 30 lbs to lose and have lost 18, but unfortunately a lot has been due to stress and illness. I was working out regularly and have been eating better, when I have an appetite, so it's been a combination of things.

Definitely don't starve yourself. That has screwed up more people's metabolisms! I'm struggling with my menopot and weight across my upper back and upper arms. Yuck! It takes cardio to burn calories and weights to sculpt and tone muscle, so if you can do both, along with eating well, you should eventually make progress.

Hi, Milocat, and WELCOME to the board! So nice to meet you! I see my fellow FOF (Fit over Forty...our original name) members have introduced the board better than I could! Now, can you figure out a way I can lose 20 lbs by tomorrow because I am leaving for Mexico and I won't put on a bathing suit?

I am the cl here, but I have to say, everyone gets this board going! They will be helping me out this week while I am away. I am a 59 year old heart attack survivor and a certified fitness instructor. Been doing it for over 25 years and I still have a heart attack. But, because I was fit, I survived it without any damage and live life the way I always have...maybe a little slower but still strong!

So, email or post here any time with questions about health and fitness and I will try to help you out. Debbie had some good pointers and Nancy stated things perfectly. WE are here for you!

Take it one day at a time and as we say, it is babysteps.

Talk to you soon...

Grace

Hello and welcome to the board. Yes, I'm in that time crunch right there with you. I don't have young children at home but just the working the paying 9 to 5 every day and the non paying job at home 7 days a week certainly does eat up the time! Balance can be a hard thing to juggle.

Hope you'll stick around here. Lots of tips, motivation and lots of friendship with a great group of women!

Susan
