I was trying to catch up with some local newspaper articles I'd been saving to read - one of the articles was about

1. If you were a Make-A-Wish child, what would you wish for?

Assuming I couldn't have a few million dollars (!), I'd probably want to go on a trip with my entire family -- maybe a cruise or a California winery tour.

2. If you had the chance to learn when (and how) you were going to die, would you take it?

I'd like to know if I was destined for a long and healthy life, since it would keep me from wasting time and energy worrying about all the mistakes I've made in the past that may have jeopardized my chances of reaching geezerdom (e.g., being chronically overweight, drinking too much alcohol, etc.). But if a long and healthy life was not in the cards, then I'd rather not know for fear it would just make me give up and lose hope for the future.

3. Except for possibly family, what causes and/or beliefs would you be willing to die for?

There are many noble causes I believe in, but I'm not very brave or self-sacrificing... I can't imagine dying for anything.

4. Are there goals you haven't accomplished yet? What's stopping you?

Goals remain, and the only thing stopping me is the same old thing that has ever stopped me -- fears of my own inadequacy.

5. If there was a fountain of youth, would you drink from it?

I'd prefer a "fountain of good health," but assuming health came along with the youth, and also assuming I could retain the wisdom (such as it is) that I've gained from making it into my 40s, then sure, I'd drink deep. Otherwise, forget it.

6. Are you afraid of death?

You betcha. I want to stick around forever and watch human history unfold! And since I'm not a religious person, I envision nothing after death except the same "experience" I had before I was born. Not a whole lot to look forward to there....

7. Do you live each day like it is your last?

Not even close. See "fears of inadequacy" above!
