CHECK WITH LEGAL AID ASAP! I am so sorry to hear this and think you should have some legal recourse. Don't believe everything people who don't have a legal background tell you. Prayers for you and your pets.

Lori first off I want to say that my heart goes out to you and I could not imagine someone telling me I could not have such and such a pet, especially since he/she has been a member of the family for years. They do not have that right but...........(Don't shoot me, ok?) Having a child that was hurt by a Rotty really made my eyes open up. The family dog had never hurt anyone before and what ever the reason he decided he was not happy with Katie. She was not a baby nor mean in any way. No one can explain why the dog decided to bite her, thank goodness the owners son was able to pull Katie out of any further harm. Having said that I think their should be rules for people who own dogs, period! Myself included when we had Bingo we always had a fence and he only strayed out of the front yard 3 times in his 17 years. Fences around yard, locks on gates, certain heights on the fences. ( We had a black German Shepard many years ago that just sailed over the 4ft fence we put around our yard. He got out all the time and we finally threw our hands in the air until that awful day he chased this little old lady to see her Lapso. The Lapso nipped at Coal and he just said no way. He took one mouthful and just held that little dog down to the ground. We were able to open his mouth and pull him off but it was so difficult. I have to say we put him down because our fear was what if it was Rob, who was just 18 months old. Rob loved to climb on him.) I believe you have every right to fight this and I wish you all the luck in the world. I think the key term for the entire situation is "RESPONSIBLITY". Because some treat it casually and do not do what is needed to protect their pet and others those should be in trouble not someone who follows the rules that are best of everyone. Keep us posted.........and if you need to protest loud!
