if you are cooking.

Do you use some "old family" recipes, follow tradition, or just wing it?

Love to hear if you do something different.

Pretty traditional here, at least, traditional for this family.

Turkey, gravy, stuffing...

Cranberry orange relish, and whole cranberry sauce.

This is the first year I've ever hosted (or made a turkey), so I'm only going to worry about the main dishes and my relatives are bringing the sides. So far we plan on having:

Roast turkey w/ gravy (not sure exactly how I'm going to make the bird yet -- probably the same way I do a chicken, with a spice rub on the outside and onions stuffed in the cavity).

    Herb stuffing

    Homemade cranberry sauce

    Buttermilk biscuits

    Mashed potatoes

    Canned corn

    Green bean casserole

    Sweet potatoes

    Pumpkin pie

    Angel food cake & fruit

    Lots of wine :)

Unfortunately, after five days in the fridge my turkery is still pretty frozen, so it looks like I'll have to try keeping it in a sink of cold water all afternoon today to get it thawed out....

Looks like it will just be the five of us which everyone is finding a little weird but a nice dinner planned:

Artichoke spinach dip
Pizza bubble bread-a family tradition since DS made it in his 8th grade Home Economics class

Antipasto-a family tradition passed on from my il's. A holiday dinner isn't the same without it

Roast Turkey w/gravy
Spiral Ham for my anti turkey DS

Sausage stuffing

Mashed potatoes

String beans with mustard vinegrette-the only vegetable dish the whole family agrees on

Jello salad-have to make that for the kids in my kids

Cranberry muffin cups-a salad made in muffin tins with cranberry sauce, jello, diced apple and crushed pineapple

Homemade applesauce

Crescent rolls-another family favorite

Apple pie

Pumpkin pie-made from the pumpkin itself (and one for the neighbor next door!)

Chocolate birthday cake to celebrate her 29th.

Your descriptions of the food make it sound so much better than what wrote.
