1. WHAT SIZE TURKEY DO YOU HAVE FOR THANKSGIVING? OR NO TURKEY?
We had an 18lb. bird this year -- enough for all with plenty left over to make sandwiches and creamed turkey this weekend. :) I was worried the turkey would take longer to cook since it was still a little bit frozen when I was preparing it, but that didn't seem to affect it at all. I used my mother-in-law's electric roaster this year, too, and it worked wonderfully well, allowing me to use the oven to cook/reheat side dishes and bake biscuits, etc., at whatever time I wanted.
2. AT WHAT TIME DID THE BIRD (OTHER) GO INTO THE OVEN? WHAT TIME IS/WAS THE MEAL?
It went in at 1:45pm and came out at 6:15pm. I put some foil loosely on top and let it rest for about 45 minutes before carving.
3. IS THERE GRAVY WITH YOUR MEAL? DO YOU MAKE IT FROM SCRATCH, DOES SOMEONE ELSE MAKE IT, OR IS IT FROM A PACKAGE?
I tried two kinds of homemade gravy this year -- one plain, and one spiced up with curry powder. (The latter was actually more popular, which surprised me.)
4. HOW ABOUT CRANBERRIES – CANNED (whole or jelly), FRESH COOKED, IN THE FORM OF A SALAD, OTHER?
I made my own cranberry sauce from a simple recipe I found in "Cooking Light" magazine: I mixed fresh cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a pan, baked it for about 45 minutes, and then laced it with a little rum at the end. Yummy!
5. ENLIGHTEN US – REDDI WIP CREAM IN A RED CAN IS A MUST WITH PUMPKIN PIE AT THIS HOUSE – HOW ABOUT AT YOUR HOUSE? NONE, FRESH MADE, IN A CAN, IN A TUB, OTHER?
I typically do without whipped topping (it's unobjectionable, but I'd rather spend my calories elsewhere), but someone brought over a tub this year, so we had light-style Cool Whip on our pie. Actually, they brought over two tubs, so we'll have plenty left over for Christmas and New Year's desserts, too.... :-o
1. WHAT SIZE TURKEY DO YOU HAVE FOR THANKSGIVING? OR NO TURKEY? It was just under 14 lbs and also a small quarter of spiral cut ham for my non turkey eater.
2. AT WHAT TIME DID THE BIRD (OTHER) GO INTO THE OVEN? WHAT TIME IS/WAS THE MEAL? We actually ate pretty much all day. DD's BF stopped by around 12 and we had spinach artichoke dip and pizza bubble bread. The bird went into the oven about 1:15 and it took about 3 1/2 hours and we ate around 5:30.
3. IS THERE GRAVY WITH YOUR MEAL? DO YOU MAKE IT FROM SCRATCH, DOES SOMEONE ELSE MAKE IT, OR IS IT FROM A PACKAGE? From a package. I'm a terrible gravy maker and the family seems to like from a package better probably because of the above!
4. HOW ABOUT CRANBERRIES – CANNED (whole or jelly), FRESH COOKED, IN THE FORM OF A SALAD, OTHER? I made a raspberry jello with whole canned cranberries, crushed pineapple and chopped apple and made them in muffin cups and then peeled off the muffin cup wrappers. It made a nice presentation and was just the right combo between tart and sweet.

We actually didn't use any of it. But it's usually Cool Whip. More of DD's birthday cake got eaten than pie.
