Nancy I was curious, living in the country is definatly different then living in town. I was curious about cars traveling down the road, near your house. Our border collie, Bingo was an inside dog and although he was not on a leash in our yard (front or back) he normally stayed within the confines of our property. He did sneak off twice, once he got hit by a car and the b#stard never stopped. Thank goodness he was alright and only had a broken tooth. The other time he crossed Main Street and a local guy found him and called us. We always had my parents or Bill's parents stop, feed, play and take him out when we traveled. We never did the kennel thing. Before Bingo when we lived in Florida we had a black shepard that had full run of the property, we had 2 acres back then. When we brought him to NY he did not adjust well and use to run away all the time. He used to jump the fence every chance he got and run the neighborhood. He used to scare the pants off the neighbors. One time he sat right in front of the local grocery store and no one would come in or out of the store. Until one of our neighbors came by and reconized him. Not funny really. He attacked a little Lapso and we were afraid we could not control him. He was big and although sweet with our family he would not stay. He had that roaming instinct and well living here it does not work. We had to put him down because we could not control him and we were afraid he was going to hurt a child next time. Neither of us could have lived with that.
