Ever feel like there's not enough of you to go around? Mom said Dad had a bad afternoon yesterday, very depressed. He's much better today thankfully but
Deb it is funny that you mentioned baby sitting. I did that for 5 years for 2 little girls (sisters), the parents were teachers at our local school. She was my Billy's 6th grade teacher and then he was the SS teacher in the HS. Great people and great kids. I was making $275 a week, off the books. I worked from 8:30 to 3:00 and was off when the kids were and I had my summers. It was great money for the time but after the older one was ready to start kindergarten I felt it was time I did something for myself..........right about the time I joined the FOF board. I went back to school and learned the basics of computer, typing, legal jumbo........... This afternoon I commented to myself and then a coworker maybe I shoud reconsider babysitting again. Lot less stress and agrivation, I think??? Goodness my sister is looking for someone to watch my nephew 2 days a week, although she needs someone for 13 to 14 hours each day she is willing to pay $20 an hour. Problem is she is in CT and I am in NY...........Although I think you can always find someone who needs and wants reliable child care.
At the time for me it was perfect. I had tried to do the baby sitting thing about 5 years earlier before Katie was born. I just had the two boys and Billy was about 7 or 8 and I guess that put Rob around 3 years old. It lasted all of 2 weeks. She was a first time mom, very sweet little boy. Problem was she did not want me to take her child in the car with me. Mind you I did not really go all over the place. I had not even thought about it until 2 weeks in I needed to drop a birthday gift to my god daughter in the next town and planned to have a cup of tea with my girl friend in her house. I just figured Rob would play with my god daughter and the baby would be in the car seat carrier or my arms. When I asked her to leave me his car seat she said was very hesitant. After we walked Billy to school and began to get done for our morning outting she called me back and said she was leaving work and did not want me to take her son with me in the car or any other place. It threw me for a loop and honestly if I had been running a day care center it would have been different but this was one little guy and I never thought it was going to put a halt on my life. I realized if one of my kids got sick or I needed milk from the store I was trapped. So I called her back and said this was crazy I would visit that weekend instead. But when she got home to pick him up later that afternoon I told her she needed to find another person. I think I gave her 2 weeks to make other arrangements, funny thing is she founds a retired school teacher but called me about a year later to see if I would reconsider. I said no........by then we had Rob enrolled in pre-school and I needed to drop him off.
After I had Katie and she was 3 I hooked up with Shelly. She was Billy's 6th grade teacher and we were friendly. Billy had moved onto 7th grade and that year she got preg with her first. She called me and asked if I were interested, I had to think about it. But the hours were better and she was totally fine with me having the car seat in my car because by then Katie was in preschool. Two years after I had Madison they had their second child, Jill. When
