The original Salvation Army Doughnut was first served by Salvation Army in 1917. During WWI, Salvation Army "lassies" were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home cooked foods, and provided a moral boost to the troops. Often, the doughnuts were cooked in oil inside the of the metal helmet of an American soldier. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines. Lt. Good Morning,
Friday celebration-yes! The fact that it's Friday is thrilling me-just need to fast forward the clock to 5PM!
It's raining-again. It's damp and yucky and it matches my end of the week mental mood. And holes-yes I might be needing those. One for the XY at work and possibly the XY at home as well. The XY at work has just been a miserable beast. Between the stress of one less attorney, cleaning up the assortment of messes the former associate left behind and him dieting-just such an ugly combination! The other one at home-well I think I already said we had a problem with the ceiling paint. One can was absolutely no good and the other one DS commented that it looked brown and really didn't look right. DH insisting that it was fine. The paint has a texture to it for the ceiling and actually contains sand. It's been great for ceilings where for whatever reason we have a peeling problem and it great for covering the multitude of sins on the ceiling. Anyway, DS went to Lowes to try to get the paint the other night and couldn't get it and said he would pick a new gallon up yesterday. Meanwhile while DS was at Lowes DH decides he's going to paint with the questionable paint-yes it was still brown. He painted not quite 1/2 the ceiling when DS got home. Again DS said he looks brown and DH still insisting that it was fine and that it was the sand and the light and it would be fine. By noon yesterday it was obviously not fine. So now I'm figuring it's going to have to be sanded and redone but no DH takes the new paint puts it over the old paint and the brown of the old bleeds right through so 1/2 the ceiling and the whole perimeter of the room is still brown. He knows he can't use more sand paint since the texture will be way too much on one side of the room. So now the ceiling will have to be finished and either some primer and ceiling white over the sections that are brown and hope for the best. And why? Because he didn't listen to either one of us, decided he was right and we were both wrong and now have multiple steps to correct a problem that could have been avoided if he had just waited one day. The walls and woodwork still need to be vaccumed and washed and the walls in the room are going to be two different colors which means you just can't throw a first coat on all the walls. Only two walls at a time and then wait for it to dry. The old carpet still needs to be ripped out and the molding reinstalled. The carpet is ordered and we can expect installation the week of the 15th. I found out that they need the bottom of the closet cleaned out so they can install properly. Do you know how much of DD's junk I had to box up and get in there. The closet also houses two air conditioners which we can't install until the window is painted and cleaned and she has a bookcase which she was housing shoes and more boxes on top of that full of books. It's also been decided that since the house is a disaster anyway that what's 40 lb bags of bird food along with the rest of the stuff in the living room going to hurt.... What I wouldn't give for a painting crew to do the painting and then a Clean House crew to come in here and toss the foolishness and mayhem!
The workday is looming. The boss will be in the office ALL DAY and just jumping for joy at that prospect. My eating went totally out of control yesterday afternoon and last night. Sugar...sugar...and more sugar. Of course I felt disgusting last night when I finally stopped to think about what I consumed. The cake went in the garbage, the ice cream is out of sight and today is a new day. Sports Fitness after work and then I'm guessing I'll need to head upstairs and see if I can perhaps clean up some of the walls and woodwork before getting ready to the paint the walls. I didn't put in for a vacation week but thinking I should try for the week of the 22nd.
Nancy-Thoughts and prayers for your DD. Hope everything is OK.
Patty-you may find me at your doorstep looking for those holes!
Donna-continued good thoughts for your DH and his job search! Great job on those workouts!
Just looked at the time and need to finish getting myself ready for the workday ahead. Waving hello to everyone and hope you all have a fantastic Friday!
Susan
Not coming to the board and posting for two days makes one really fall behind here so please forgive me everyone because I am sure I have missed much. Patty mentioned Nancy's dd having headaches...............I hope she feels better. Patty I already have a huge hole so don't waste time digging, lets fill mine up first.
Let me see after work while Katie was at Huntington Learning I ran to Kohls and bought myself two pairs of capris for work, a black and a tan. I spent every morning this week playing games in my closet with trying stuff on and getting depressed over what does not fit. I know I need to really start exerciseing and change this but I also need to be able to reach into my closet and find something that fits without causing so much additional stress in my life. I also had to buy Rob black socks, I swear the young man goes through socks like crazy. Bill and Rob left last night around 9:00 and drove with our friends John and his son Johnny down to PA for a big race. They like going early so they have more time to set up and organize. They won't run the car until tonight so this morning they get to sleep in and relax a little. Bill left Billy in charge of the shop for the day. After they left I pulled out my ironing board and did a huge amount of clothes but I need to finish up that pile today. There was more there then I realized. I really don't mind doing the ironing while I watch the TV and the house is quiet.
Rain, rain, rain.............did I mention we have rain.........AGAIN! Well I am off today and we have rain, I am really starting to think this weather is effecting my attitude, mood, stress.....you name it!
