Since I am home today on this Friday I figure I could post a Friday Five, maybe someone else can do it next week and so on and so on........mine won't be as entertaining or educational as those that were done in the past by Rhonda or Karen. Mine will be just fun and silly information!

1. Do you hang baskets? Do you make your own or do you buy them already done? What is your favorite type of hanging basket? Where do you hang or display them? Yes we have hanging baskets and they hang on my front porch. We usually go to the nursery each spring (the weekend before Mother's Day) and buy two huge ones for the front of the porch and two smaller ones for the side this year we only bought the big front ones. I saved last years baskets and decided to give it a try myself. I bought petunias and impatients and planted them two weeks ago and they are doing well. The ones in the front are different because they have a mixture of different flowers and plants in them but my favorite is the petunias. I will attach a picture of what it looks like.

2. Do you maintain your own lawn? If you have a landscaper does he do everything from the feeding of the lawn to the weeding of your garden or is there someone in your family who gets that chore? When I was a SAHM I did everything, I actually enjoyed cutting the grass but when I went back to school and then got a job it became too much. We tried to make the boys do it but it became an arguement each weekend because they never cut it to Bill's specs so Bill does a trade out with a local landscaper. Bill maintains his fleet of trucks all year long and he cuts and fertilizes the grass. I still weed out the gardens and plant my flowers. Bill tries to help when he can, the kids want nothing to do with it.

3. What is your vision of the perfect backyard? Does it have a deck or a stone patio? Do you have a covered area with screens or out in the open? Does it include a pool or a beach? What does it really look like...........now? Maybe I should not have asked this question, lol. I can feel my BP go up as I think about it. My vision of my perfect back yard would include that lovely pool I posted a while back with the pavers all around. Bill wants a deck and I would prefer the stone pavers. My grass would be green around the yard with lights along the fence/garden area. I would have hydregea plants along the fence blooming in hues of blue and purple mixed in with the beach grass. In the corner would be a big Japaneese Maple tree with a swing underneath...........now the truth is I have a huge white garage in my backyard and along side is a huge hole that has standing water in the deepest part. Along the sides of said hole are mountains of dirt and rocks and glass with weeds sticking out. Cole now found out he can climb to the top of the hills and play king of the mountain. Oh I would also redo our screened in patio with one of those four season rooms with more hanging plants and a beautiful outdoor dining set.

4. Well if you are not lucky enough to have one, if you could where were it be and what would it look like? Remember this is a dream so dream big, lol! Not lucky here, not even close to a time share in my future! But if I won the lottery and I could buy something it would be a beach house. We live so close to Fire Island and the ocean I would love a place along the water. But it would have to be on the water, not 6 doors down. I think the modern looking houses are cool but I prefer something more of a cottage look.

5. What is your taste? Do you like how your house looks inside when its all cleaned up and sparkling? Are you a country kind of gal, formal, modern? Do you change from room to room? Do you have a style or do you go with the flow? Well my house is a never ending project, the joys of owning a 100 year old house. I love the comfortable country type look but this house lends itself to a more traditional way. I love how it looks when I get it all clean but unfortunatly the family comes home and messes it up! My livingroom stays pretty clean since we hardly use it. My furniture in here is dark cherry wood tables, and the couches look like needlepoint. We have hardwood floors with a burgandy area rug and the walls are a deep sage color. My dinning room is yellow with gray carpet but the furniture in there is an old set we bought 15 years ago out of the local penny saver. Its a Danish Modern set and I so would love to replace it with a cherry set. Kitchen well you all saw that and it has the darker cabinets now. Our den is more country with a stone fireplace, wood cedar cealing and tan walls. The carpet is tan too and very nuetral. The couch is a huge sectional that is old and needs to be replaced too. No rips or tears just getting old. Bedrooms have no style, lol. Oak furniture with light gray carpeting............like I said we need work!

As we quickly approach summer we are all talking about getting our houses and gardens in order. I have a front porch that we hang baskets from each year. So based on that please let us know:

1. Do you hang baskets? Do you make your own or do you buy them already done? What is your favorite type of hanging basket? Where do you hang or display them? I love hanging baskets but I don't have any. I used to get one for Mother's Day but that hasn't happened in awhile. I used to do a lot with pots but I just don't get around to it these days. DH has sort of taken over growing marigolds. Bags of dried seeds sit in the house during the winter and then he plants them and sees what happens. Not personal first choice of flowers. I've seen really pretty baskets through the neighborhood and I'll have to be honest I'm not quite sure what's in them other than they're really pretty!

Ah the front lawn..........I think we all have one, right? We know Nancy has the biggest! Now can you share the following:

2. Do you maintain your own lawn? DS maintains the front lawn. He makes sure it's mowed and edged and he does a really good job! The first sod job didn't last long and since he paid for the 2nd he's trying really hard to maintain this one. The back lawn is another story. It's mostly green weeds and when they start getting really bad DS will mow that lawn as well. I try to keep the weeds under control in the flower beds and occasionally the vegetable garden but they usually do me in! If you have a landscaper does he do everything from the feeding of the lawn to the weeding of your garden or is there someone in your family who gets that chore?

Ah here is a nice back yard, water fall, nice patio set, can you picture having a nice BBQ out there?

3. What is your vision of the perfect backyard? Does it have a deck or a stone patio? I would love either but I think I'm a bit partial to a nice deck. Do you have a covered area with screens or out in the open? I had a screened in porch growing up and loved that porch in the summer. It was strange since every house we looked at when we were moving had a screened in porch except the one where we're presently living so yes I would like a nice screened in area or a front porch! Does it include a pool or a beach? No pool...one more thing for me to clean...I'll go to someone's else pool! A beach...yes that would be nice. What does it really look like...........now? My backyard is a bit of a disaster. The big "man shed" which is constantly peeling is my focal point-I HATE that thing! We do have a small concrete patio to the side of the garage although it's not used much. I occasionally will sit out there to have my weekend breakfast. I have one other small area that houses my favorite chair that DS made me for my evening and weekend quiet time.

Ah a vacation home...........we all have one, right?

4. Well if you are not lucky enough to have one, if you could where were it be and what would it look like? I'm torn between a place on the water or a place in the mountains. DH's former parts manager had a "log cabin" built which was actually a beautiful 2 bedroom house that was made of logs. He invited us to use the place a couple of times when the kids were growing up. It's in a small upstate town about 4 hours up (or 3 1/2 when I drove!). The town was so small that if you went by the one town blinking light you had gone too far. The house sat about 900' from the road on a hill. It had a front porch that had the most gorgeous view and the back deck took in the beautiful gardens that he and his wife maintained. The house and "yard" sat on about 5 acres and the rest was about 50 acres of wooded property. It was always so quiet there. We were living in a city environment back then and I loved the stillness and quiet. I would sit with a cup of coffee and just so enjoyed the silence! I think I could use a good dose of that! Remember this is a dream so dream big, lol!

Well lets talk about what is inside your house!

5. What is your taste? My taste has changed over the years and I definitely am an anti-clutter person. I do have a couple of antique pieces that I love and my grandmother's cedar trunk that was made for her and a small rocking chair. I have pieces that belonged to my parents that have been incorporated into the house as well. Do you like how your house looks inside when its all cleaned up and sparkling? I love that but lately it never seems to get to that state. Are you a country kind of gal, formal, modern? I was once a country girl but some of my taste has changed to a more contemporary style although there is really a mishmosh of things. Do you change from room to room? Some of my rooms I'm ready to put everything out on the lawn with a sign that says "free stuff"! Do you have a style or do you go with the flow? I can't say that I have a true style. I have certain things that I love that I try to incorporate and I'm more of a go with the flow where I want you sit down and feel comfortable in my home.

Thanks for the questions Deb! I the pictures that were posted!

Hmmm no hanging baskets here, the garden has a lot of blooming flowers that I can't take credit for either.

Way too much lawn here....everything just grows like crazy.
