Good Afternoon,

Perfect message for the the 4th of July.

We have arrived home safe and sound from our whirlwind trip to Rhode Island. The trip yesterday was a nightmare. What should have been a 3 hour trip took us nearly 4 1/2 hours. The traffic was horrible and for no other reason than shear volume. By the time we hit I-95 I don't think I got anywhere near the speed limit for more than 10 minutes at a time. It wasn't until we were about 50 miles from our destination that traffic broke up, the speed limit was 65 and away I went. Fortunately our room was ready and we had just enough time to get changed into our wedding attire. We were following someone to the church and we got split up. Fortunately I had google mapped directions from the hotel to the church. The directions were fine-street signs in Providence are terrible-there are none! We would get to each cross street and there were no signs. We pulled into a gas station and the gentleman told us to make a right go up the hill and the church would be on the left. Unfortunately it was the wrong church! We turned around and DH figured out that we were on the right street but needed to make a left instead of a right. We turned around and while waiting at a red light we were rear ended by a pick up. Fortunately only minor scratches to the rear of my card and we didn't exchange any information. The guy did apologize but he obviously, for whatever reason wasn't paying attention to what he was doing, Meanwhile the weather had turned really nasty and we were having thunder and lightening and downpours. We did get to the church about the same time that the bride and bridal party arrived so I was really happy that we made it in time. We would have both been disappointed not to get to attend the ceremony. By the time we left the church the sun had reappeared but that didn't last long. We made our way back to the hotel and there was a bus that took anyone that didn't want to drive to the reception. It came down in buckets and then about a mile from the country club the roads were dry and then another torrential downpour. Fortunately the weather cleared and we were able to go out on the deck which overlooked Naragansett Bay. What a beautiful location! They did hold the dinner outside which I thought took some divine intervention to have the weather clear as it did. The only problem was the tent was set up right on the golf course so unless you were wearing wedge style or flat shoes your heels were aerating the sod! The food was very good and let me tell you the groom's side of the family really know how to party! I've never seen a dance floor absolutely packed for every dance. They had a band and they were really good. I'm not much of a dance but I really did enjoy the music. The groom's mother's family is Irish and they played some Irish music and let me tell you from the youngest to the oldest knew all the Irish dances. It was great to watch and they were having a blast! The bride was beautiful, my "boys" looked so handsome, and my GF looked so nice in her mother of the groom dress and her husband so handsome in his tux! A really nice wedding.

After not going to bed until after 1AM I was wide awake at 6:15. I made myself a cup of the coffee in the hotel room before we headed down to breakfast which was included in our hotel room rate. Making the coffee reminded me of Nancy and I trying to figure out the little coffee maker in our hotel room in DC. We would always have our before breakfast coffee! We thought we would be the first ones up but we found a few people ready to go in and have breakfast. It was nice to visit in a little quieter condition. We all live within miles of each other but don't see each other than often. We finally packed up and left about 9:45 and made it home in about 3 hours. No traffic except once we hit the two highways that lead into NYC or to the LI beaches we decided to take the route with the traffic lights rather than in more stop and go traffic. I had had more than enough of that!

So we're home now. DD headed to a friend's apartment who lives by the beach and DS left to go dog sitting. DD will be heading home late afternoon and I think we'll just throw some burgers on the grill for dinner. I'm hoping it stays relatively quiet around here as far as fireworks since they make Otto absolutely berserk. He starts shaking and usually ends up peeing somewhere in the house.

Karen-what terrible storms you had and sorry to hear about the damage to your house. Hope that removing the carpet and pad will be the end to any more damage.

Hope you all have a safe and Happy 4th of July!

Susan
