Morning we woke up to pouring rain and heavy winds. I guess this is the Noreaster they talked about. Thank goodness it is only rain and not snow. Sure not ready for that. I meant to post yesterday but for some reason the day got away from me and I never did.
Thanks on the congratulations for Billy & Christine. It will be an adjustment in thinking and attitude around here for this changes the situation and how we act as a family. As you know I voiced my concern earlier in the week about my relationship with my son so now I really need to becareful about pushing him away. Mind you I won't be a door mat either but he promises that they will try harder to be around more often. On Friday night at the game he asked her to marry him and she said yes. I did not know any of the details because my son just is not like that with us. I guess if he were he would have mentioned the love and marriage thing a little bit more in advance instead of throwing us all for a loop. I will back up to Friday as the situation unfolded........
After I got his text that she said yes he told me she was crying and on the phone with her family sharing the news. I asked if any of them knew ahead of time and he said yes they ALL knew and kept is a secret. That hurt my feelings since we only found out that morning. Either way I knew I had to be the one to tell Katie because she has lots of resentment and anger towards her brother and Christine. When I told her Friday night (after I got the text) she cried and said now I really lost my brother. I tried to explain that she needed to let that go and accept the fact that he is now in love with someone and he wants to spend his life with her. Hard to accept as the little sister but it has to be done nonetheless. Billy texted both Rob and Katie shortly after that he had proposed and they texted back congrats. Yesterday was a bit on the emotional side here but I explained to Katie and Rob that they needed to extend the "olive branch" as they say towards Christine and see what happens. Katie did call her and say congratulations and Christine told Katie that she was happy and that Katie would be in the wedding party and help pick out the dress and plan the wedding with her. That made Katie feel better................Billy then called both sets of grandparents sometime in the middle of the day then my phone went crazy, lol. My parents called, Bill's parents called, my sisters called all asking questions and saying congrats. I have admit I still had not spoken to them myself only text messages. Which is not a good thing, honestly. Billy and Christine asked if Sunday night both her parents and us could meet for dinner with them, which we said yes. So that is our plans for later today.
After dinner last night after I knew they were on their way home I called Billy's cell and spoke to him then asked to speak with Christine. I extened my own "olive branch", I told her congratulations, asked if she were happy and told her welcome to the family. She then told me how he proposed and how surprised she really was. She said they had talked about it but thought they were going to wait another year but I guess Billy had a different idea. He took Christines dad out to dinner on Monday night and formally asked him which was the right thing to do. Christine said that she thought that was odd but Billy told her he was going to look at a used car for him and they were just going get
