Dearest Miranda:

There are 3 basic things we have to do to loose weight and get physically fit!!!

1. Eat healthy

2. Drink lots of water

3. Exercise

We are all concentrating on our caloric, carb, or fat intake very much and we are all pretty dedicated to drinking water.

So I thought we should concentrate our challenge on increasing the time and effort we put into exercising and maybe on not eating 3hrs before bed.

The new rule of thumb is to do 60 mins. of Cardio per day to get fit, not 30 mins. as previously thought. So what if we all bump up our cardio time. For example if we are walking for 20 mins 3 days a week, we should try to increase it to 20 mins. 7 days and then increase the time from 20 to 30 to 40 ultimately to 60 mins. as our bodies become acustom.

The intensity of cardio exercise is usually rated on a scale of 1 to 10. With 1 being watching tv and 10 being an all out run. We should do our cardio at a rate of 7, 8 or 9 but how often do we really push ourselves to work harder doing our cardio workouts. So what if that was our challenge??

1. Increase our current workout by either time or distance

2. Increase our current intensity of workout and report how we did on a scale of 1-10

3. Not eat anything after supper/dinner or at the very least 3 hrs before bed.

Would it help if we fine tuned our weight loss efforts? I think we all have the basics for losing weight, now we just have to push our bodies a little harder and get our booties off the couch for a little longer. Maybe this is the best time of year for such a challenge, with summer fast approaching!!

I know I definatley want to wear a cute "little" dress this summer!! LOL

This is just my two cents worth!! You can take it or leave it, dosen't matter to me either way.

I can't wait to see what other ideas we come up with (we are such a brilliant crew on this board, LOL)!!! Maybe there is a way we can combine a couple of ideas!!

Sounds good to me. My whole family definetly needs to move more. We went and got us some bikes he other day and everyone in the family has inline skates now. And since the weather has gotten much better here we will be doing more outdoorsy stuff. I need to wok on my portion size though. That is a biggy for me.

Any challenge you come up with I am in.

I like the idea of a cardio challenge. I'm trying to get in three 60 minute cardio workouts per week, so any cardio challenge would help with that and probably also incorporate a lot of outdoor activities like biking, inline skating, walking etc now that the weather is getting nicer.

I thought the water challege really helped remind me to drink water. Maybe we could do a new water challenge where we at the end of the week we average out how many ounces we drank per day instead of tallying up the total amount we drank for the week and that might motivate us to be consistent in how much we drink per day.

a food challenge could relate to incorporating more veggies and fruits into our daily menus.

My suggestion if there is a journalling challenge is that each time we journal, we should include a postive thought which could be something that we did or didn't do, something positive that happened during the day or it could be a quote or whatever. Just something that forces us to think about the positive things that are happening in our lives. I'm a firm believer that positive thoughts and positive energy attract more of the same.

That's just my two cents. I'm up for anything and am certainly looking forward to participating in the next challenge - whatever it may be - from beginning to end, especially since I started this one mid way through.

The challenge should consist of something different each week out of a few categories for instance on our challenge we will focus on the main thing we need to do to lose weight and be healthy

1. Healthy eating

Example every week we add something good and take away something bad

2. Exercise

I like Kim’s Idea on this every week we increase are cardio by 10 minutes or more exc.

3. Journaling

In our Journal we should be required to write at least one positive thing about ourselves, what are short-term goals are and how what we are doing is helping us accomplish our long-term goal.

4. Core

Example adding an exercise for our stomach and back each week

This is my some ideas I have, you can use them is you wish. It might be a little easier to stick with the challenge if I start when it first starts.

Yikes...another challenge! I need to get my head around this...I'm still trying to catch up with this one, lol!

There have been some great thoughts so far;

  • Adding extra cardio- never a bad thing!

  • Food challenges- sure to be interesting!

  • Water challenge- the liquid of life!

  • Positive thoughts- we are wonderful, and let's not forget it!

  • Weekly challenges- posted by our members!

I remember when we did those weekly goals and each of us took turns, I thought that was GREAT! I'd love to see something like that again. But having an overall goal in mind!

I also remember a time when one of our posters wasn't so motivated, I posted to her and told her to workout with me, and not to post until we'd done the workout (it was a Leslie Sansone walk). We both did it and I found it very motivating to think of someone somewhere far from me doing EXACTLY what I was doing! It was fun! Maybe we could try and schedule some 'group workout' time!

I'll give this some more thought and see what else I can think of...keep your thoughts comin' too everyone, together I'm sure we can come up with a totally fabulous challenge to get us Summer Ready ~IG

Hey IG: I love the idea of working out together at the same time or doing something on the same day, challenging each other to do better!!! I think that is great!! Maybe we can take turns picking out the workout or the time. Like if someone can't seem to fit in their exercise later in the day, then someone could offer to get up at 6am to do a walk/run with them. Only we will be miles apart. Then later in the day we can report how the workout went, the weather and anything else that may have happened.

There are lots of great ideas pouring in...I am sure we can combine our ideas to come up with the perfect SUMMER CHALLENGE!!!

I came in on the middle of the current challenge and just never really joined it. So I'm ready to go with whatever is decided on. I do like the idea of having another water challenge, as well as an exercise challenge. I also like the idea about recording positive thoughts every day.

Whatever it is, count me in!

I REALLY love the idea of thinking that someone is hundreds, maybe even thousands of miles away working out at the same time I am; wow, that's some serious motivation! Please give that some more thought - it's a way cool idea. I love it.

Whatever the challenge, I'm up for it!
