Anyone know about carb blockers?

I have heard about a capsule that is basically a white kidney bean extract and blocks carbs...has anyone heard of them?

A friend of mine was taking them a while back, and grant it I haven't asked her how they are working, but I'll e-mail her tonight and see how it's going for her.

I've tried to find some info but all I'm finding is ads for products...I did ask a parent at school who owns a health food store. She said they have them and that they're all natural. From what I can see in those 'ads' is that they help to digest the carbs through the intestines w/out having to convert them to sugars.

Ok...this is what I found on the white kidney bean;
White kidney beans help reduce levels of the digestive enzyme amylase from converting starches like pasta, potatoes and bread into glucose, causing excess carbohydrates to travel throughout the body (from absorption to excretion) without being converted into fat.

I'd love to hear if anyone else knows anything else (positive or not) about them...

IG i would love to hear any information on them as well. i try to maintain a low carb diet (ok, except for my cheat meals). i know different people feel different ways about the low carb way of life but it works for me. i have a less full, bloated feeling. the carb clockers would be wonderful on these craving days.

I got a reply from my friend and this is what she said:

My problem with the carb blockers is that I keep forgetting to take them!

Hey IG:

I have a friend who takes them and she lost a pile of weight. She works at a Tim Hortons and was eating carbs all day long, between donuts and begels and she put on a lot of weight fast. The only thing is that she had to take pills based on how much carbs she ate at a meal, if her meal was high carb she took a few pills. She got them from her doctor and it was cheaper because she had a drug plan. I will check into it again for you. She did loose a lot of weight very fast and has kept it off. She feels much better physically also. I think she has cut back on her carb intake at work also.

I have been thinking about it also!!

I will keep you posted.

Hi IG, I've never tried them, but have you heard that 1 tsp. of cinnamon/day also helps w/carb digestion? I know this sounds hokey, but it's from a reliable source (either Shape or Time, can't remember which.)

Thanks, IG. i am going to run to CVS tomorrow so i will have them for this weekend. My parents are low carb dieters also so when i go "home" i dont cheat that bad but weekends are inevitable. hopefully i will see some results...this weight has got to go.

Thanks Kim! It's nice to hear that something actually might work and not in a negative way! I am kind of skeptical about taking a 'pill' but I just love my carbs- lol! I don't think that I eat too many but it would be nice to know that if I did go over what would be considered too much something can help me and my body out a little!

So......what is the name of them? Also, I don't have a CVS near me. If you can find the name of them (brand name or otherwise), I'm sure I can search around at my local stores.

This sounds too good to be true....although, maybe it will help with the fact that I LOVE my carbs. lol.

Here's the deal as reported by members on my Atkins board:

They can cause the runs and bad gas pains.

They eliminate the need to learn how to make appropriate choices, and most people tend to use them as a crutch to avoid that learning process.
