How do you decide what your goal weight or ideal weight should be? Are you trying to get back down to a weight you used to be, or are you trying to get down to a particular clothing size?

I'm just curious since I'm within a good weight range right now and I'm trying to figure out what an "ideal" weight would be for me. I think I'm coming to the conclusion that it's about more than weight. I want to be tone and strong, so I have to increase the exercise a little bit and just keep trying to eat balanced meals and drinking lots of water, of course. :-)

I have a short term goal weight and a long term goal weight. My short term goal is to be at about 145. At that point, I think my clothes from last summer will actually fit, and that will make me happy. My longer term goal is to be 141 - I was that weight last year at this time and know that my body can get back there. I felt good and energetic at that time and liked how I look. My final, end-term goal weight is to be 135. That is the weight I was 6 years ago when I got married. The reason I like that as a goal weight is that then even if I gain 5 lbs or so (due to holidays, vacation or whatever), I'd still find myself at a weight that was acceptable and then be able to get those 5 lbs back off. I'm not sure how realistic it is to be 135 now - so much has changed since then - I had a baby, I turned 30, everything is just different - but I don't think it is unreasonable for someone who is 5'8". Plus, I'd really like to lose that weight before I end up pg with #2.

So that's my story!

Goal weight. YOu know to be honest, I have no clue. I mean, in HS I was 100lbs. Early 20's, I was 110-115. Now i'm at 140. My first goal is 130-135. Close. My second goal is 120-125. My final goal is a size 6 comfy. I don't care if I weight 120. Because I am assuming I will have more muscle than when I was a kid. Also, I'm older, let's be real, I know I wno't weigh 100lbs ever again. lol

So, my ACTUAL goal weight is 110-115. But realistically, I want to be a size 6, no matter what my weight. That'll make me VERY happy. =)

Debbie- you know I don't really have a goal weight- I think I would be happy to be around 130lbs but who knows....I'm just taking it and seeing where I go with all of this. When I get to where I'm happy then I'll have met

I have a goal weight of 135 - 145 lbs. However I always heard that your body will find it's natural weight when you are eating right and working out regularly. So, I guess if I get to a point where my body settles in, and I am healthy and fit, I will consider that happily my goal. I will be 33 in less than a month, and do not want to fight 5 lbs for the rest of my life to be an unreasonable weight for my body. I was 115 lbs until 6 1/2 years ago when I became pg with baby #4. I don't even want to be 115 lbs. now. Too thin. Under 170 at the end of this week would be good though. (((Prayer goin out)))

Be happy and do what feels right.

Well, goal weight?? Hmmm, when I got pregnant with my daughter 10 years ago I weighed a nice 123 and I'm 5'2" tall. I was comfortable and very happy with myself. Now, two pregnancies later and after quitting smoking in 1997.... I'm at 154 and disgusted. I've even lost 6 pounds, I was 160 ! There's just no excuse for this so I'm working hard. I would say that my goal weight is 125. I think it's attainable but maybe not by my target date which is July 4th...., I just need to keep my focus and take the losses in small increments like you said....

I'm with Steffy. I try very hard to live each day to the best of my ability and to eat the very best foods. But every once in a while I fall off the wagon. I have a long term goal of about 135-140. I don't know if I will ever get there but I try really hard to not get discouraged by it. I try to maintain or lose every week.

My goal is to be at the bottom end of my so called "goal weight" on those height and weight charts. I am more muscular now, and boobilicious, so I will adjust for that accordingly.

The reason why i picked that weight is for health reasons. They say if people dropped about 15% or 18% of their current weight, ( and are considered overweight now, like I am) that is the range of avoiding diabetes, heart problems, etc..

For me, that works out to be in the lower range of my "ideal" weight. It going to be tough, because I have not weighed that much since freshmen college. But at the same time, walking to class, and getting plenty of exercise, I was in the best shape of my life. Not even a hint of flab or cellulite.

I want to get like that again.
