Oh STEFFY....CAN YOU HEAR ME SCREAMING WITH JOY FOR YOU?????????? I am so happy for you, it is such an incrediable feeling, isn't it?? To be able to run, like when you were a kid, it is just like.......WOW!!!!!!! I don't know how to explain it with out sounding so corny but I just get this WOW feeling with lots of chills and goose bumps. I am feeling that for you now Steffy. I am so happy for you. LOL
Now with that said, 1.9m in 23mins. is AWSOME!!! You go girl, that is awsome. As for me, well I have a few kinds of running speeds that I do. If I run a race like a 5k or 3.1m I can do it in appro. 26mins. but when I do a long run (which I do once a week) then I run about 7m in about 90mins. During a long run I am looking at how long I can run without stopping not how far I can run. This increases your endurance and burns piles of calories (appro. 800cals in 90min) I also have a run pace that is not too slow and not a race pace, but a comfortable pace and I usually do 3m in about 35min. So Steffy girl, you are right on track and right there with me. Maybe we can go running this weekend, say Saturday morning. LOL I wish I had a running partner, but I don't know anyone who runs!! Most people think I am nuts!!
As for the stiches, you handled it well, slow down a little but try to keep running. You may be getting stiches because you are not warming up enough. Did you do a warm up first? Or did you just start running right away? I find I run my best after a good 20min fast walk to slow jog then work into my run starting with an easy pace upto a fast pace. I don't often have the time to do that though and it is usually a quick 5min walk then right into the run. With you just starting out try taking it a little slower and stay away from the hills for a while because hills can be discouraging. If you want to do hills keep them for once a week and just do hill training. If you want to know more about that let me know. For now though, just enjoy the feeling of accomplishment you are getting from running. Relax and just go with it. Don't worry about times or distances or anything else, just enjoy it for what it is. As your body gets more used to running then you can set goals for yourself.
I am so proud of you!!! I was a smoker too and running helped me quit and stay off them!! So I know exactly how you are feeling!!
Let me know If you have any more questions, okay!!
I am off to do my run right now. I just popped in for a quick second and saw your post, I just had to respond before I go!! LOL
Good for you Steffy! I think an almost 2 mile run/walk/jog in 23mins is great! I can usually get mine done in less than 15, but this week I've been closer to 20- and nearly killing myself!! (What's up with that??) When I was walking more (this time last year) I could walk a mile in 10 mins....now I realize I've to step up and work on this again!!
I'm thrilled to see that you are doing this. How about we (you, Kim and I) meet for a run this weekend? Anyone else want to join us too?
WWooooooooHHHooooooooo IG!!! I knew you were working on your running but I didn't realize you were doing so good!!! Way to go IG!! I am ready for a run this weekend and I can't wait to see who else will be joining us!! LOL Lets make it a long slow easy run and see how long you can run for. Don't worry about distance this weekend. How about it, anyone else up for a long run???
I also wanted to tell Steffy that I too sweat lots. I just got back from my run just this second and I thought "I didn't tell Steffy about sweating." LOL I guess I am just remembering because I am sitting here all drippy. I lose about 2-3lbs. after a good run so I have to drink a pile of water or gaterade when I get back. I ran for 47 mins. today but I am not sure of the distance, it is aprox. 4 or 5m. (I am curious now so I will measure it and let you all know) I had a great run, but very hot and lots of traffic. The route I took today has 3 very long steep hills and yes Steffy I have to slow to a walk at the top to catch my breath sometimes and I have been running for a long time.
I will check in later to see who else is coming running this weekend. LOL
See you for our 'slow, long, *hot* run this weekend! Not sure if I'll make it on Saturday or Sunday...but one of them is sure to be good enough for a run- more rain is forecast for us :-(
Rain is good. It will keep you cool. Saturday or Sunday is fine with me. I can't wait, oh my gawd, tomorrow is Saturday!!! Already. I can't believe it, it is TGIF day already. Yippie!!
I wanna go.. I wanna go.. As I was walking yesterday evening, I was thinking that it was time to step it up. I have ALWAYS been a terrible runner except when they MADE me run in the military.. but I have been thinking about, on my own, trying to re-train myself to run like that again the way they did. They start you out running a quarter mile for a week.. then a 1/2 mile for a week... increasing a 1/4 mile every week until the last week you are running your goal of 1.5 miles. I ran 1.5 in 12 min when I was the air force. And NOT that I am getting bored with my walking, but I would like a little variety.. AND the more challenges that I meet, the more I want to bring on. I can hardly sit still these days. I've got so much muscle definition developing.. not only am I getting thin, but tone to boot!! I just feel AWESOME!! So, if I could meet the challenge of maybe training this summer (all summer) and maybe be able to run a 5K by fall.. I would just be super thrilled with myself. I ran a 5K once before.. I was "running" the whole time but at a VERY slow pace. NOt kidding. Took me every bit of 45 min (shuold be able to walk that in 45..lol) SO, if I ran a 5K with an average of a 10 min mile or close, I'd be SOOOO happy!!! Who's up to running behind me telling me to keep going?? lol
