lighting those "worm" things, and/or the sparklers. I also remember my dog being relaly scared...but that was the only time he was allowed indoors.

oops. i thought it said, first independent DAY experience. Okay, my first independent experience? leaving the house to go to college and living at college, working their, and doing it all on my own. So, moving out. that's my first independent experience (fyi - i wasn't even 18, so no checking account yet, so i couldn't use that one. besides, my bf at the time pushed me into opening one, so i could use it for him. the jerk!)

2. Do you

Getting my first checking account. My first Independence Day Memory is when my Mother shot me with a bottle rocket. I still have the scar.

2. Do you feel you are an independent person?

I am independent but look to my parents for advise - sometimes I wonder why. =)

3. What does independence mean to you?

Having the confidence to do anything even if you fail. Trying is the best part.

4. What are your Independence Day weekend plans?

Friday and Saturday - hanging out with DBF & Sunday - Relax - see what is going on in my town, Monday - Relax & work on my craft projects. If it is nice I may go for a walk.

When I turned 18, I bought a plane ticket in Va and returned to Co with nothing but a suitcase to call my own. My bestfriend here (in Co.) had found a place for me to stay (which turned out to be disguisting, so I declined). I had been dating a guy from Co that eventually left me there in Va. He was "finding a place to live" which was bullsh.. slang for dumping me. I guess he decided to get back together when I showed up on his doorstep. Any way, I stayed with him until we got our own place. That didn't last too long, but I am still here and did it all by myself.

2. Do you feel you are an independent person? Yes

3. What does independence mean to you? Well, self sufficient (or stubborn both apply)

4. What are your Independence Day weekend plans? Eat healthy, drink lots, and be merry

Moving out of your *home* is one of the biggest, and most times scariest things we do! It really means that we're growing up...funny how I sometimes feel like I haven't grown up yet, lol!

Sounds like you and KC have a fun (and romantic) weekend ahead- Enjoy ;-)

I agree with you Robyn-
"Having the confidence to do anything even if you fail. Trying is the best part."

Your poor Mom doing that to you-- she must have felt so bad, really ruined her 4th I'm sure! Hopefully you and dbf will have a fun, safe weekend this year ;-)

1. What do you remember as being your first independent experience? I think when I got my first job in high school and could spend my own money.

2. Do you feel you are an independent person? Yes.

3. What does independence mean to you? Being able to do everything on your own, even if you choose to ask for help instead.

4. What are your Independence Day weekend plans? Probably grill w/In-laws...drink margaritas, light sparklers w/DS

That is some move you made Michelle- and to think of you arriving on that bf's door with your suitcase put a smile on my face! Did he have any clue you were going to be there? At least you were together for a little while before you made it on your own- Good for you!

Have a Fun, Merry Weekend ;-)

There are a couple of things that come to mind initially- I believe one of the first independent things I did was use the potty, lol! (Couldn't resist that one!) But seriously, when I was about seven I took my first 'alone' flight from Dublin to Spain. From what I remember I wasn't even that scared- probably a good thing, for both me and my parents.

2. Do you

Hey, IG! Yeah, I was literally sick the day I left. My parents were military so we left Co when I was 17. I was not 18 yet, so I had to go. I couldn't afford to live there. I had been on my own since 16, but they really tightened up the leash when they were leaving their daughter and her baby. They said no way, Hose'. I actually left my son there to do all the stuff my bf was supposed to be doing. He was pretty shocked. I don't think he thought I would leave my family, but I just couldn't make ends meet. We were right outside DC and it is really pricey there. So.... off to CO. Got my place and then got my boy. I eventually married that guy, but I made a huge mistake and divorced him (for someone that I thought hung the moon....jerkjack!!). Thank God I did because the next guy (nicknamed jerkjack above)did it to me and I have learned enough about love now to treat my wonderful dh with the ultimate respect he deserves. This one is mine for life...oh and he loves my son with all his heart as his own and we have three othere together.

Sorry...I am rambling. First time I have thought of all that in a really long time....

Being able to spend your own money, on what YOU want feels so good, and sure does signify independence!

Enjoy those margarita's this weekend, I might just join you ;-)
