What is Oxycise?
| Wed, 06-30-2004 - 8:00am |
Has anyone had any experience with "oxycise"? A friend of mine told me about it and says her sister swears by it. She herself has lost five pounds doing oxycise without changing the way she eats. I don't know much about it, but the premise is that your body requires oxygen to burn calories so you do a lot of deep breathing exercises. Also, you do these 15 minute workouts where you assume poses that promote strength and flexibility.
Thanks,
Nancy

Well I hadn't even heard about it, so I did a search. I now know it's about breathing while you exercise- there are books and video's about it.
Here's an article I found- (but the links they have on their page don't link to a page that works!)
http://www.naturalhealth.org/articles/oxycise.htm
Here's a review of the whole thing-

As I've said I haven't heard of it so can't give my opinion on it really, but after reading the information I found, I would think that it's just another way of exercising. Though this part in the first article really made me think about the pros and cons "When the body hyperventilates, it fails to adequately delivery oxygen to tissues, thus disrupting the appropriate co-ordination of breathing and blood flow. It does so partly because hemoglobin that carries oxygen from lungs to tissues fails to yield the oxygen there"...says to me that your body goes a little out of whack!!
Maybe someone else will have some more info to share...

Now that I sound like a bit.., I am not trying to. If you are serious about wanting to take off some weight, then we need to take some responsibility for it. We didn't get fat by going around holding our breath!!!!

People come on here and say that they want to do this and lose that, but it doesn't seem like too many people around here are trying very hard. No magic fairy or magic pill is gonna come and help us out. I am also trying to lose some weight. I know how it feels to want ot find that perfect EASY solution. Truth be known, it will take discipline and hard work...PERIOD. This is my line of work, I see this all the time. Why haven't I taken my own advise? Because up until recently I have been too lazy and undisciplined to do it. Well, all that has to change or I might as well go and buy the clothes I fit into now "fat clothes".
I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but really a little effort goes a LONG way!
Sorry if you're upset.....
Thanks for your response. I had actually seen those sites. I just thought I'd see if anyone in this community had some direct experience with it. Deep breathing itself can have benefits in terms of relaxation and reduction of stress, which is interesting to me since I have high blood pressure. I imagine that the real fitness part of it is from the 15 minute strengthening exercises.
Thanks again!
Nancy
Nancy- I still don't know enough about oxycise to really give an opinion...
what kind of exercises does it include?
and what is the breathing technique?
....ultimately I do agree with Michelle that there HAS to be effort and determination used to see positive weight loss. I'm not saying this is not the way to do it, but there are better, safer ways that we already know about.

Michelle you are so right there-
Truth be known, it will take discipline and hard work...PERIOD.
However your statment of "it doesn't seem like too many people around here are trying very hard" seems a little harsh. I think anyone who is here is trying...maybe not as hard as we should- but hey we're trying...and that goes a long way too.
Sorry that this

Just to go Oxycise.com to see success stories. There's a message board where you can talk to people who are doing it and seeing results.
Cheers,
Lauren
I've read some of the testimonials on the oxycise site and other sites. Seems like a lot of people use it in combination with other fitness programs like as a warm up before running or doing an exercise video.
