problem tricep kickbacks

i hope someone can help me with this.

i'm doing all kinds of strength training for both upper and lower body, and i'm doing very well with them. BUT! i'm having problems with a couple of them. most notably, the tricep kickback. the way i've been shown to do it is bend forward slightly at the waist, with knees partially bent. then taking the hand that isn't doing the kickback, i place it on the same side thigh for stability. is that descriptive enough?

well, the problem is prolly to do with me being big, esp my bust. because that position causes me to get some painful twinges in my lower back. as i'm doing the exercise. i actually feel as tho my back is limiting the number of kickbacks i do. because it wears down and aches long before i've finished my 3 sets for each arm. :(

so is it my form that's off? and if it's not, does anyone have a suggestion for another form that would still allow me to do the exercise? i refuse to let this one go, as it's the single most exercise that's allowed me to actually go out and buy new SHORT sleeve tops and not be ashamed when i wear them. :)

thanks!

I understand what you mean.... I've felt some lower back pain doing tricep kickbacks like that also.

A great option to the tricep kickback is the overhead ext. or the french curl. The french curl you will need a spot to lie down... floor, coffee table, step (bench like at the gym), etc. You will lay in a supine (face up) position, grab your weights (or a body bar is awesome for this) and ext your arms straight up without locking the elbow out. Now turn your palms towards your knees so that your knuckles are facing your head. Slowly, bending at the elbow bring your knuckles towards your face (90 degrees) and then ext without locking. Since you are working on the triceps, you want to keep your hands right about shoulder distance apart. If you have any questions, let me know. I think this is pretty well explained........?

Vess, I think Steffy & Michelle gave you some great suggestions and modifications! I too have a problem with the 'girls' and really like the overhead exercise Steffy described.

Good Luck with it!
