I love Italian food...mamma mia! Bellisimo! Anyway....got this from Denise Austin today, and thought I'd share some things to remember if you too love Italian food-
Think you have to avoid your favorite Italian restaurant now that you're on the plan? It isn't so—if you think ahead about your options and make good choices! Keep the following in mind when ordering:
- Look for dishes that are lightly sautéed; have a lemon, red wine, or white wine sauce; feature flavor from herbs and spices; or are meat-free dishes like primavera.
- Avoid items with alfredo sauce, cream sauce, those that are stuffed or topped with cheese, fried or deep-fried, or described as parmigiana-style.
- Ask the server if you can order an appetizer for your main dish instead of an entrée.
- Ask for salad dressing on the side, and order a low-fat vinaigrette instead of a cream-based dressing.
- Have plain, dry bread instead of butter-soaked garlic bread or toast.
- Order a personal pizza topped with vegetables and minus the cheese.
- Keep an eye on portion sizes, and plan to pack up extras to take home for a second meal.
and remember....
