Do you exercise with a cold???
| Thu, 09-16-2004 - 10:23am |
last week, I was home from work for two days with a bad cold. Now, I don't have a fever anymore, and I'm not fatigued.
I have a stuffy nose that decongestants takes care of, and a harsh cough that robitussin cuts down to about one coughing-spell every 15-minutes or so.
So, the nurse is asking advice... Do you exercise when you've got such symptoms?
Also, it's not resuming an exercise plan that I'm doing, I'm wanting to start one after several months of no exercise.
Truly, what do you think? This isn't the kind of thing I deal with at work... I'm a geriatrics nurse.
Thanks, Barb

First of all "Happy Birthday" I looked in your profile to see about your nursing. I also work in a nursing home but I am a CNA. I also do CHHA work..
I have heard if its any symptons above the waist you can work out as long as you listin to your body.. Waist down don't work out.. So thats my $0.02 in this..
Hope you feel better and have a great day.
Terry
Simply put...yup.
First off-
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday dear Barb
Happy Birthday to YOU!
Now....to answer your question-
I would agree with Terry 'listen to your body'. I think we all know when we are TOO sick to workout, or go to work...
A good rule of thumb would be; if you have a fever take the time for your body to rejuvenate itself. If you feel middle of the road and up to it something not too strenuous should be ok, like a walk or something.
I guess it is a tough question to answer, as you are really the only one who will know whether you're up to it or not.
As for the not having exercised in a while, I'll use our popular saying.....

I think I'll have to vote for the sex too ~ it's exercise, right??!!!
The celebration is for your birthday, NOT for you cold!!!
happy birthday!!!!!!
I've heard that if the cold is simply in your head, it's okay, anything below the neck, like if it moves into your chest, you need to rest.
