I see ORANGE!

Going along with Steffy's I see RED post last week, I figured we'd do an ORANGE post this week! Plus....did you see the RED recipes in the recipe folder below this week? If you have any ORANGE recipes to share, please do!

Here are some benefits I found with ORANGE foods-

Orange foods like sweet potatoes, mangoes, carrots, and apricots contain beta-carotene, a natural antioxidant being studied for its role in enhancing the immune system. Orange food is also rich in vitamin C and vitamin E.

A single carrot contains enough betacarotene - the substance that the body converts to vitamin A - to provide enough of this important antioxidant for the day. Vitamin A plays a key role in maintaining the health of the body's inner and outer membrane surfaces and so is useful in preventing respiratory and skin complaints. If you think carrots are good, take a look at the health benefits of pumpkins, which have FOUR TIMES more betacarotene as a large carrot! Pumpkin seed oil, which you can now buy in supermarkets as well as health stores, is a fabulous source of zinc - low levels of which have been implicated in hyperactivity in kids and reproductive problems in adults. Most people only think of oranges as a source of immune-boosting vitamin C, but they also provide folacin or folic acid - which plays a role in the formation of oxygen-carrying red blood cells. Oranges supply pectin; a soluble fibre which slows down food absorption after meals and which removes unwanted toxins.

What other foods can you think of that we can incorporate next week?

Orange is my favorite color! (lol) I do eat oranges in their natural state only (don't care for orange flavored stuff though), I drink OJ almost every day, and I love baby carrots! Orange is WAY good for ya!

How about green for next week? I eat tons of green stuff. Steamed broccoli flowerettes are my favorite veggie, green beans are second, and Peas!!! (yep! Gotta love peas!!) hee hee!!
