Hello all! I'm new to this board and want to say Hi. I am a 34 year old blob of fat. I say that because my body fat % is 47% almost half of my body is fat!!! Before I turn 35 in 19 weeks I would like to go from my 200 pound jiggle, untoned, unheathly body to a firm, toned, fit, healthy 137 pound person. I walk now but want to run. I can eat healthy for a few days then crave cookies, nachos, candy, pepsi, coffee. I need HELP! I need willpower, support, advice. A healthy lifestyle. I hope I can find that here along with some buddies. My first question is that of calorie intake. How much should I be eating each day in order to lose 2.5 - 3 pounds per week? I think I am averaging about 30,000 calories per week. If I cut out 3500 x3 per week then that would leave me having arounf 1650 - 1700 per day right? Am I thinking correctly with this? What is the best way to lose weight - no pills - that will be healthy and quick?

Thank you.

Vicky

Hi Vicky :o)

Welcome, I'm pretty new here myself but this place is a blast. Everyone here is friendly helpful and serious about getting fit. :) Some of us are more insane about it then others but we are relatively harmless.

Sounds like you made the first steps by coming here and stating a goal. Walking is a great start I actually can chart a direct path from walking with a pedometer to Triathlons. NOT that I'm saying you should do the same just that walking can lead you as far as you want, specifically running.

My suggestion would be to first set a goal for walking x minutes a day when you are doing 30 minutes then start with mini running goals. For example. Every 5 minutes run from the mailbox or Tree, or road sign, to the next tree, mailbox or road sign. Make it a small attainable distance. then walk for 5 minutes and repeat. When you can do that with ease over your 30 min workout then every 5 minutes increase your distance you run instead of every tree go every two-three trees etc. Eventually when you can run a whole minute without stopping reduce the time you walk to 4 minutes and run 1 minute. Continute that process untill you are running 5 min and walking 1. That may take a long time but the best programs don't happen over night. I'd only try to walk/run 3x a week to start and do some yoga or other stretching 2x a week to keep from getting injuries. When you get that far let me know :) I'll give you the rest of my program. LOL

As for calorie needs... www.eazyup.com/calories.html ... This site has a great chart that takes away the guess work.

Good Luck.. Post often

Hi Vicky,

Welcome to the gang. Very good to post your goals. Walking is a great exercise (something I need to start to do). You can post your food intake to fitday.com

Post often with any questions, comments, concerns or funny stories.

"moderately paced front crawl" is just regular ol' swimmin' (freestyle I think they call it) at a in-between pace.
