I thought it might be easier to just do a general Triathlon thread every monday. That way if anyone has any questions or just want to come and hang out with us Dolli they wouldn't feel left out.
So how did your week go?
I managed to get in 2 bikes = 45 mins each
2 runs = 30 mins and 35 mins
and drumroll please 2 swims = 20 mins at 1000 y each.
Since my race season is officaly over and i won't start training for a specific event again until the end of Jan. I'm using this month to get back to doing one a day workouts on fixed days. Also, with the running I'm attempting to get the time back up to 45 mins and 60 mins respectively. That should get me through October and then the habit should be built. Planning a training season for a year long schedule is still pretty new to me and I felt that last year I didn't allow myself enough rest or habit building.

Thanks Sabrina!!
Do you swim in the mornings or during the day, or in evenings?
I usually swim in the afternoon. Although I have been known to get up 2 or three times a year and go at 5:30 AM. LOL I'm not a morning exerciser. The way I work my swim is when Jesse finishes homeschooling and goes to work I head to the gym. It works out most of the time as it's the senior water aerobics hour and our YMCA pool is very small and shuts down to just two swim lanes (instead of the normal 4. LOL) Anway, most of the "swimmers" know this so they stay away. At the most I have to wait 5-10 mins in the hot tub while a lane comes open or I can share. What a Hardship Huh?
As for cycling, I have a bike trainer so I do all my cycling indoors during bad weather, or if I can't fit it in my schedule any other way. When I'm working on speed I currently use the McDonald's routine. Whenever a commerical comes on I have to go all out untill it's over. IT's a great and fun tip I learned from a veteran Triathlete. For christmas I hope to get one or two of the spinervals tapes to work on technique and more speed workouts. Again, My Y is sooo small that we don't have any spin classes and only two upright bikes in the gym.

Although today has been a great day.
I was called an athlete today.
I got in my swim.
My butt seems to be heading back up where it belongs.
AND I have a triathlon club meeting tonite where the discussion will be about cycling (one of my big areas I'm working on for next season.)
O and my darling hubby said don't worry about cooking dinner before you go we'll get McDonald's tonite.
You know since I've been posting here, Life is going great. You ladies are Good luck.
I'll post later if I get some good cycling tips.

Sabrina...
I was wondering if you have any websites or sources that you could post so we could get an idea on how to get started on tris...

I am a member at www.trinewbies.com. (member name beanabug) It's a great site from the respect that everyone is very friendly, and will answer most any question. Most of the members have been there forever and are not what you would think of as beginners though. There are also some great starter plans available on the site. Another true beginners site, with great plans and great people is www.beginnertriathlete.com I really only lurk on that site but they all seem very friendly and excited. There are also enough people over there in the know that they can get you the answers. Finally, if you want a great place to track your workouts I use www.coolrunning.com . They too have a Multisport board but the site is mainly geared towards runners and even though they are nice they usually refer you to one of the other two sites for training plans etc.
Hope this helps. If anyone has any questions on how to get started or what you really need the first year etc. Just ask. I've learned a lot about the sport in the last year and a half.

I have been away for a while but I have been working out!
I am sorry I haven't checked in!
I can't remember Monday very well, but I think I ran on the treadmill and I defintely worked my upper body.
Tuesday I swam a whole darn hour!!!! It only amounted to about 1800 yards, but it felt great. I did a few 100s, a 200, an 800, a 400, and another 100 or so. I forgot how much I loved to swim! They are going to close the pool soon and I am not happy....
Today, I rode the stationary bike for an hour. It registered as 12 miles, but my speed was an average of 14mph so I am not sure what that deal was. I felt my blood sugar drop at the 40 min mark but pushed on to see if I was going to use up some stored glycogen. I made it, legs felt like rubber but there must have been some glycogen there, because I showered, picked up the kids and dropped off the car at Sears before stopping at ChikfilA to get a wrap.
Tomorrow I am taking the day off, since I need to take the car back in, then grocery shop, then take all of the kids to the library.
Friday, I want to run again, and do some more weights.
Sat, I have to skip because there is a fall festival in the morning, and a birthday party in the afternoon and by the time that is all done, the nursery will be closed.
Sun I hope to get in there but I promised the kids a trip to the amusement park and water park (we have yearly passes) if the weather is nice.
It will be easier when dh gets home to work in a morning run. I am going to order a mag trainer for my bike too, so I can ride during nap time. That way I can leave gym time open for weight training, swimming and running on the treadmill.
Anyway, that is what I have been up to. I have noticed some changes in my muscle shaping since starting in with the swimming and biking. I am getting a butt and my shoulders (which were always big for my size anyway) have gotten kind of sculpted. Really neat and helps give me inspiration to continue....
New and improved siggy coming soon (which could mean after Christmas)
YOU ARE DOING FANTASTIC! You are definetly going to be ready for that race this summer. And this week you are making me look lazy. LOL which is Ok, I had to take a training break as my volunteer responsiblities took center stage. I spent the last 3 days preparing for and holding a volunteer workshop for the schools publishing company. (I'm the director this year) Luckily it went well and now I can go back to only commiting 30-60 mins M-F until the books start comming in.
So Sun (Festival with Hubby) I walked 1:30, and for 30 mins I got to watch cycling Races on a closed course. We have a yearly pro race that comes through Downtown and starting this year and the Fall For Greenville Festival is built around it. Totally cool and made me realize how much I still have to learn about the bike. M-W I averaged about 30 mins of walking each day. And 20 hours of volunteer work.
Tri wise, I am very excited about where I am in my training year. I've met or will meet all my yearly mileage goals this year except for running. However, I will have run more then my first year. My Swimming is going fantastic. I even out swam my local pool hottie (cute college Michael Phelps type)last week. Which was very good for my ego.
Again you are doing fantastic, Keep up the good work. IT will get so much easier when you get a trainer and can cycle during nap time. If it wasn't for my indoor trainer I would only get to bike once a week.

Sabrina,
Are you familiar with the Danskin Triathalon Series?
Everyone I know who has done a Danskin has LOVED IT! I have yet to hear anything bad about the race and their are many mentors available through the association to get you through it. The Danskin is traditionaly a Sprint race (400-500y swim, ~13 mile bike, 3.2 mile run). I have done sprints but they aren't my favorite. ONLY because I'm pitifully slow but I can go a long long time. So I tend to gravitate toward the Olympic distance and now I"m working up to the Half Ironman. I just feel more comfortable at distances that aren't so speed focused. (Hope I'm not being too confusing). Anyway, If you are looking for a great beginners race there is none better then the Danskin because the whole series is geared toward the first time female triathlete. You don't have to be fast and the total focus is on fun and finishing.
