1) When do you usually fit in exercising? Now that I'm back on schedule, that means that I go to the gym 3-4 times during the week during my lunch hour (well, hour and 15 minutes with shower!) Also, I live in NY, so I walk all the time. I really saw an impact on my weight when I was on vaca for two weeks and traveling on business, because I never had to walk anywhere - we were always in a car.
2) Do you have kids? Do you get a sitter? Do you take them with you? My son is almost 3. He loves walking and probably clocks 1-2 miles per day. So on weekends, he often takes nice walks with me. They are a slow pace, but at least we are outside and moving!
3) What have you given up in your schedule to fit in exercising? Unfortunately, since I work out at lunch I don't go out with friends for lunch that often.
4) Do you work outside the home? Do you work out at work? As noted, i work out at lunch. My home is one block from the subway and my office is about 10 ft away from the subway, so I don't have much walking on the way to and from work.
5) Do you take regular classes, or just fit it in when you can? I try to go to spinning classes 2-3 times a week and do weights or the elliptical machine on the other days.
6) Do you work out at home or at a gym/class? Always at the gym. Though DS is taking gymnastics now and likes to stretch at home, so we are getting so stretching in together!
7) When do you feel most overwhelmed? When do I not? Seriously, the worst days for me are days where I get slammed at work and cn't get out even for a walk, or days when I can't fit into clothes and then get all bummed out. Then I just feel like what's the point.

Honestly, Whenever I can. I have a schedule that I use solely to plan my training. I write in pencil the workouts I plan to do that week. I have another schedule that I would be lost without it has everything I'm doing that is definite placed on it. School/car pooling, homeschooling time, when Jesse goes to work, When I plan on cooking and serving dinner, the time I plan to go grocery shopping, IF Frank's out of town, etc. Every morning when I wake up I mentally review my day and pick out 2-3 blocks of time that I can complete my workout. I then commit to doing a workout at such and such a time. This time of year (I know you've heard me say that a lot lately but Triathlon training has cycles) I have only one moderate workout a day and I have one quaranteed day off. Since my training isn't that tough right now my off day can be moved around to any day that I am unable to meet a workout or if I'm just feeling blah.
The rest of my "exercising", I play by ear. If my daughter wants me to walk the dog with her and talk about school I go. If I can fit a quick bike/run/walk back and forth to the school. I go. If my husband wants to workout that day. You got it I go. Not sure if that helps but this is what I do.
2) Do you have kids? Do you get a sitter? Do you take them with you?
We have 5 kids at home. They are 17, 15, 10, 8 and 8. Up until 3 years ago I was a single mom for 7 years for the youngest 3. I never used a sitter to workout. I had routines I did at home, a stationary bike that someone had thrown out and I had rescued (ie it was older then dirt) and I utilized my triplet stroller. 3 years ago I got married and offically gained the older 2. They have made it possible with my husband to get in more out of the house workouts. So I got rid of the old stationary bike and got a real bike, I walked by myself more... then started running. I am also able to get to the pool but generally I only go when they are at school.
3) What have you given up in your schedule to fit in exercising?
Numerous things, I've given up time I was quilting, and doing some volunteer work, some house work time but really not much at all maybe a couple hours a week. Most of the time I've given up however, I was wasting anyway. So I don't see it as that much of a sacrifice. I have a lot more stamina so it works out.
4) Do you work outside the home? Do you work out at work?
No, I don't I'm a Stay at home mom. However, that is very misleading, I help my husband with some secretarial stuff as needed, I spend 4 hours a day homeschooling I spend anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours a day on volunteer work etc. Not to mention the hour to hour and a half a day I spend cleaning. So even though I don't work I have very little "extra" time to workout during my normal day. I also do my Swim workouts on my "lunch hour" so I don't know if that counts or not.
5) Do you take regular classes, or just fit it in when you can?
I used to before kids. However, I just don't have the time for scheduled classes and honestly, I don't really want to work out with a group anymore. My workout time is also my Me time. It's my time of day to reflect on what's going on or sometimes to zone out. I don't feel like I can do that if I'm in a group of people.
6) Do you work out at home or at a gym/class?
Home and neighborhood. I only go to the gym with my husband and for my swimming.
7) When do you feel most overwhelmed?
It comes and goes. Right now is actually one of those times for me. I'm very emotionally overwhelmed right now because I have three special needs students who are all struggling to get their years going. I have one child who just got bumped up to accelerated math. I have a husband who is under a lot of stress at work. I'm dealing with the ex-wife right now butting into the kids lives. Long story but she abandoned them and to keep them safe we bought her off (child support even though we have the kids). It's a terribly long story that I won't get into but she if feeling maternal this week. Or she just wants to irritate Frank. Her motives usually are not pure. And Finally, 9 years ago I lost a triplet due to vanishing twin syndrome. Every year I seem to go through a small mourning period for Him. His Brothers will be 9 in Nov. As I mentioned in the last question for me exercise is my me time. My sanity check. I sometimes feel too bogged down to do it but I always feel better if I do. :::Shrug:::
My goodness Miranda- these are great questions....and I'm loving reading everyone's responses so far. Here's mine, now keep in mind today has been one of those days for me, lol!

Wow, you sound like me. Although, I run a business from home, grow my own vegtables, take care of all yard work, house work and errands. Thank God, I've gotten my teen off to college just recently. Oh, and I'm also repainting the interior of my home
1) When do you usually fit in exercising? There is a tv show that I like to watch at 10am so I get my exercise in while watching that. Now, I tivo the show, so it's not alway at 10 that I exercise. I get up about 6:30 and have a list of things to do first thing in the A.M. such as loading and unloading the dishwasher, starting laundry, feeding animals, making bed, etc. Then I have breakfast as I check emails, business issues, etc. Then I exercise, shower, and the rest of my day is filled with all the things listed above.
2) Do you have kids? 1, 18yr old son. Do you get a sitter? no Do you take them with you?
3) What have you given up in your schedule to fit in exercising? TV and sleep
4) Do you work outside the home?No Do you work out at work? no
5) Do you take regular classes, or just fit it in when you can? No classes
6) Do you work out at home or at a gym/class? At home. I feel more comfortable working out at home. For me, it is more convienient. I have had a membership to a gym and it felt more like a pick up joint than a place to get in shape. Also, the member ship was high and did not include a personal trainer.
I am fortunate enough to have an exercise room filled with everything I need at home. I have bought each peice one at a time and have gotten a great deal on each one. I also rent exercise videos from my local library to keep my workout fresh.
7) When do you feel most overwhelmed? My husband co owns his own business. Sometimes he works from home. I have my daily schedule laid out. When he's home, he tends to put more demands on me. Don't get me wrong, he's a wonderful husband and if not for him, I would not be able to work from home. He is a great support system.
I go through times when my workout lapes. I'm overwhelmed with all I have to do and I often get confused at what I should do first. That leads to things not getting done. For me, I have to schedule my time, one week at at time and allow an hour for interuptions. If I have no iteruptions, I have an extra hour. What I have found is that I need to see what needs done. I have to put it on paper and divide it up into manageable blocks of my time. The unexpected is always going to happen and there is nothing we can do about it. We just need to learn how to adapt.
I hope this helps.
Welcome to the board!!!
Miranda,
I understand what you are saying, you are stressed and you feel like there is no time for *everything*.
Ladies, thank you!
