To the moms out there...

Anyone watch the food network? We often watch it, and last night we tuned in and it is evidently cook with your kids week. So our favorite show, Good Eats, was doing sandwiches and soups that kids will like. It was pretty cool. The main thing he did, though, was talk about how important it is for us to cook with our kids, whatever age they are, to get them interested and knowledgeable about eating right. It wasn't preachy at all, it was so well done!

We always have Sam help us cook, even if he doesn't eat the stuff! The other night when we made the chicken, he and I smelled every spice and herb in the closet to decide what to put on (well, it was my decision). he always eats his chicken. Then this morning, he asked to help make oatmeal with me but he didn't eat that. He also helps us with the veggies, and I know that EVENTUALLY he will eat them.

I also started reading labels a lot more. Like in bread - there are tons of preservatives in bread. It kind of freaks me out. There's definitely not enough time to bake bread every day (especially if you work outside the home full time), but I just wish there were more healthy things on the market that didn't cost a fortune! Almost everything in my parents' refrigerator has partially hydrogenated oils, preservatives, artificial flavors - its no wonder I struggled with my weight as a kid.

But the shows were really good and the recipes are probably on their website if you are interested. And if anyone wants to start sharing kid-friendly recipes, I am totally open to new ideas!

Oh Erica- I get so addicted to that channel! I love picking up on ideas to use. I might not use their recipes to a tee, but I do get some great additions to use or even *tips*

My favorite shows are '30 minute meals' and 'everyday Italian'....yum!

Today in the classroom we did the body, and talked about food (in general)- next week we'll focus on foods and do each food group. We had an interesting conversation on what each child brought for lunch today. We also sent home a memo about 'Cook with Kids Week' on the food network ;-)

Hey guys, you don't even need specific "kid friendly" recipes to get your kids involved.
