SOS! Off course! Anyone gotta compass?

Man, I've got to get my head in the game! This turned out to be a horrible week to get back into any kind of healthy eating and exercising routine. DH's been working on some grad school apps which have had both of us up very late every night this week. We're exhausted. I ate ice cream through the wee hours of the night every night this week. I must say, I love ice cream, but did I need to finish the entire half gallon so quickly? It's funny but I don't even know where to begin to get myself back to where I was a few months ago - eating right and exercising. I've really lost focus from where I was before. How do you guys regroup and get back into a healthy routine when you've totally wandered off course for an extended period of time?

I figured the 'reminder' emoticon was the closest thing to a compass we have around here, lol! Seriously though....my first thought to getting back on track is S-L-O-O-O-O-W-L-Y, use those baby steps we so much love! Start journalling again, and see how your food intake is. Then start drinking your water (if that has gone off track too)- then start walking/exercising; even if it's only 20mins three times a week!

Set a goal for a month from now, and each week add a new componant (journal; water; exercise....) and hopefully things will start to become *habit* again!

Hope that helps ~IG

I agree with IG to start off slowly,

Thanks, IG and Miranda

Thanks for the enouragement and suggestions. You're right. I need to start slowly. I think the discouragement comes when I feel like I can't even meet small goals. Deep breath. I really cannot give up. I have to think back to when I first started getting in shape in March. I took it slowly like you suggest and it was very effective. However when I think about starting over, I find myself feeling discouraged about going back to square one again. I think you're right about the journaling. If I do that maybe I'll be better able to identify triggers that throw me off course so I can correct them before things get this out of control. Usually when I journal I try to focus on the positive which is great reinforcement and helps keep me motivated. I probably shouldn't set the bar too high, especially in the beginning. I'm telling myself it's better to start over than to continue doing nothing at all. I have to be able to accept set backs and move on instead of letting them defeat me!

About the only thing I find that helps me get back on track is coming back here and being accountable for my daily routine.
