OK, this weekend I was at a farmer's market and saw a guy advertising "Power Pops."

Unfortunately, for me, I am surrounded with these kind of promotions everyday. I am in the vitamin and nutritional supplement industry and I am constantly asked for products for weightloss. If you look around these boards you can easily see that there is a huge amount of interest in weightloss. So to join in on this rant, I too believe people need to wake up. People can use supplements and the herbal to assist you in achieving their weightloss goals. But there is no miracle pill. From what I have read of the studies with most ingredients and products the studies are done on volunteers. Basically, someone who says okay I am interested in making an effort to change myself and I am willing to go through some hassle to do it for this study. I think they are going to be a little more dedicated than the average person who is interested in buying a pill to solve their weight problems. In addition, if you know you are participating in a weightloss study and someone is going to keep track of everything you eat and all the activity that you are going to do. I would think that you might be inclined to eat better and to be more active. So in my personal opinion, the weightloss ingredients probably do help but to get the reported results you need to have the commitment to a complete lifestyle plan. If you are ready for that then great!

As I mentioned I do work in the vitamin and health food industry so I feel a bit like a traitor right now. But I guess it is a bit of frustration because I see all these good people kidding themselves and I worry what they are going to think when they don't get the results they expect. Or more importantly how they will feel. I think there is a huge role supplements such as vitamins can play in our lifestyle plans and a lot of good can come from the study of herbal products. Welcome to the board Mikaree, I totally agree with what you said about the volunteers for testing those products.
